Sirius Dance

I love the Strobe now. They are playing a lot of Freestyle now that they tweaked the channel.

Q: What does everyone think of Sirius dance now?

A: To state the obvious, it's a lot more dance than is available on FM radio in most markets! (This is one of the reasons I signed up for Sirius, by the way.) :)

i have both xm and sirius, just got sirius a week ago had xm almost a year now. the beat on sirius is ok but bpm kicks its ass. love the chill on sirius wish xm had something along those lines. like was said b4 no fm really has a dance station, phoenix, where i live is one, and is pretty crap also

I've been a sirius subscriber since Dec of 2003. At that time, Sirius dance was AWESOME...they had dance music for everyone's tastes. House Party//60, The Rave//62 (24/7 of dj mixing), Planet Dance//63 (mainstream dance), The Vortex//64 (all trance), The Beat//66 (dance hits), The Strobe//68 Disco.

Now it's a different story...House Party music cannot be found on Sirius anymore. The Vortex, Planet Dance, and The Rave have been merged into one channel, Area 33. The Beat has become pretty much pop and hip-hop remixes with 2 30 min. mixshows on weekdays (not enough). The only improvement has been The Strobe (is now disco and 80s freestyle and some early 90s dance).

To answer your question, I think Sirius dance is the worst it's ever been. By killing the non-stop 24/7 dj mixing channel, dance fans are pissed off. What makes them even more upset is the fact that two new channels were added to the dance category that fall far short of representing dance music. Chill doesn't do what it's supposed to and Boombox is mostly rap music mixed in with some breakbeat music. Sirius seems very dedicated to Boombox too. I think with the recent move of the dance channels being placed behind the Rock channels, dance will be further reduced on Sirius...maybe until only The Beat is left. It's sad.

i disagree. I live in Phoenix too and Energy is a really cool station that plays a lot of deep cuts. The other day, someone called in and requested Tim Deluxe "Just Won't Do," and they played it! Granted their signals SUCK but the music they play is on point, also since the demise of XM's BPM after the new PD was hired, Energy Arizona is IMO probably the best non-internet-only dance station in the US/Canada.

To the original question ive been a Sirius & XM subscriber since '02 and in that time both services have taken a downward turn. BPM is really sucking it up lately with their music selections, while Sirius as mentioned above dropped several pure dance channels. The only positive has been the addition of classic dance to Strobe, but that has been at the expense of the disco which should be on its own channel. Gloria Gaynor and Black Box jsut don't sound right on the same channel.

I mean this in the nicest possible way... You're paying for it, tell them to what you want or stop paying for it.<P ID="signature">______________

It was much better before the lineup changes and even better when Sirius had Vortex/Houseparty/Planet Dance on.

Sirius Dance is still worth my money. I Love the Beat over BPM which latley is becoming more like The Beat. BPM is a jukebox and The Beat has more personality. Although 30 minutes, The Beat still has mixshows. BPM is cutting back their mixshows... And Area 33 is great especially their Invasion Mixes. Listen all night on Saturday Nights if you can't get enough. The Strobe is better but needs improvement. More classic dance/Less Disco and some mixshows..

So Things aren't as bad as they could be in my opinion. I'm optimistic Boombox will bite finally the dust next year when they evaulate their lineup.
