Sirius in my Jeep

I brought a 2005 Jeep Liberty a week ago it is used. But I found out on while using the radio which is factory Mopar is that I have Sirius. I do know I am not paying for this. I checked it out hard to see what channels are what as they just tell you the number of the station so I printed out the station line-up. I noticed I don't receive all the channels such as Howards talk stations or Shade 45, etc. So I was wondering am I going to have Sirius free for good or what? And I don't care if I get Howards stations or those others never listened to his show on regular radio anyways. So does anyone know thanks.

Unless the previous owner bought a lifetime sub, it probably won't last forever. Technically, the subscription stays with the radio, so by rule it is yours.

But you may be listening to a free trial given out by the dealership.

While you might not care about Howard 100 or Shade 45 (possibly rendering what I am about to say moot in your case), if you are missing something you'd like to hear, you might check your radio's parental controls to see if the previous owner blocked any channels.

Personally, I've never bothered with parental controls, but the thought (regarding your parental controls) did cross my mind when I read your post.

could be free, but i see the last owner had presets already set on the radio. is their a way to parental control with the factory instailed radio? Its not add on its built into the Jeep radio which is made by Damiler Chrysler Corp. Maybe I should look at the manual again.

Actually, you can have your radio blocked from receiving certain channels. If you get a rental car, usually the channels with "Adult Content" are blocked. That would include the Stern channels and Shade 45. You can call customer service and have the restriction set. If your used car was a rental, that could be the case. The Mopar radios do not show any text information...only channel #. Unless your unit "slipped under the radar", it will eventually get the kill signal.

You're probably getting a free sample. Here's why I guess that:

The reason Sat programming is un-censored is its not broadcast for free, you have to ask for it and pay for it. Well some a-hole in congress was making an issue about the Sats providing the "adult" programming for free so the answer is to not provide any adult content for free.

Either that or the prior owner had a lifetime and blocked the adult stuff.

I noticed the number of AC stations is much better on Sirius then XM. This as my mom liked the stations I put on. Stations 2 starlite, 3 love songs, 4 movin easy, 6-60s, 7-70s, 8-80's, and 10 mellow rock are all very good. All XM has is the heart and blend. Just thought I would say that. And also say XM has 3 Top 40 stations while Sirius has one which is all I think they need maybe Sirius could get a Countdown Channel like XM. Other then this Sirius is better even the classic rock and rock stations are better more channels for everyone to pick their favorites.

The subject of this thread caught my attention. I have a 2004 Grand Cherokee Ltd which I bought new, it has the RB1 GPS navigation system/radio. Supposedly it is "Sirius ready." I've been thinking I'd like to get Sirius, but I'm lead to believe it would be rather expensive to add what's needed to make it work. Also, I drive more than one car and would like to be able to move Sirius reception from car to car...I don't want to have to pay multiple subscriptions. After all, I can only drive one car at a time. It seems my best option is one of the inexpensive units that is easily moved, but I would really like to be able to use the capabilities of my factory radio...the screen display, steering wheel controls etc. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

I have an '03 Liberty. I could have had the Sirius tuner installed but the lack of portability and title/artist functionality in the factory radio changed my mind. I got a PNP2 with car dock instead so I could take it with me. I use an old tape adapter and the cassette deck to hook it up, although I'm thinking of getting one of those adapters that goes onto the changer port of the radio and creates a line-input instead.
