Sirius reception problems

I have to admit that I like the programming on Sirius. However, the service frustrates me. It seems like, for a good portion of the day, I can't pick it up at all in my home. I don't live near any terrestrial repeaters (that I know of, anyway), and I'm not in a position to put my antenna outside. Anyone else have this problem? If you have, what did you do to solve it?

I live in texas and my signal drops out,esp during the middle of the day..sounds to me like a coverage issue with their birds.

> It is very important that you try to get your antenna outside, aim it towards Manitoba, Canada. I never have dropouts now that the antenna is outside. If it is impossible to place outside, try a window that faces most towards Manitoba, or if you are near the roof of your building, adjust your antenna to look nearly straight up. I also have an antenna inside adjusted this way and no dropouts ever. It does take time to find that right spot, but I believe it can be done. Never face the antenna southwards (thats where XM's birds are). Good luck.
Edited by AZJoe on 07/11/05 04:41 AM.

Since I live in a condo, I don't really have the option of putting the home antenna outside. However, a friend of mine made a suggestion that has, so far (which means for the last few hours but times I normally can't receive Sirius at all), worked. He suggested using the car antenna, which is omni-directional, and putting it out the window letting it fall in-between a couple of shrubs outside. No one will notice it's there, though I guess I'll have to be a little more proactive in pruning the shrubs.

If you're saying you don't think you can mount an antenna and you live in the US I think you can. The FCC ruled (don't ask me how a bureaucratic group can legislate property rights) renters can mount antennas on rental property within some restrictions.

http://www.fcc.gov/mb/facts/otard.html#QA

They don't specifically say satellite radio antennas in there but I can't imagine any renter crying cause you put a more un-obtrusive radio antenna out.

Any antenna under 1 meter in diameter was allowed under OTARD. The reason those rules exist was to keep homeowner's and condo associations from unfairly restricting people from getting DBS satellite or putting up TV antennas.
Satellite radio antennas are so small that it really doesn't matter. I doubt anyone would notice it.

Try connecting speakers to your PC.
Sirius (and XM) offers free online streaming of all their music channels (and some others) to all paid subs.
______________
