SIRIUS Satellite Radio reactivating stolen radios

This is unacceptable. I got a second subscription and mounted the newer radio on my cars dashboard permanently (although nothing is permanent in the eyes of a thief) so I wouldn't have to keep connecting and disconnecting my older unit and just use it for home & work. I felt all right about it thinking that if someone were to steal it, I would just call Sirius up, they would shut it off, and then it would be useless to the thief. But now, by the time you go through the hoops their asking you to go through, the unit could be in the hands of an unsuspecting buyer. I guess one thing that can be done to prevent theft is having my name etched on the front of the radio somewhere that is visible to a would be thief. perhaps if they see it they may move on to another car instead.

this is good to know, I was just fixing to buy 2 more units for the cars, guess I'll have to go for the in dash...still not fool proof but harder to steal than the way I have my sportster mounted in my car now.

If you are really worried about theft, get a Sportster 4 or similar. Then all you have to do is pull it out of the docking station and throw it in your pocket. Problem solved.

Its wrong. What are we headed back to the days when street crud would smash your window & pry out your 8 Track deck, your FM Converter, or your Reverb unit? Its within Sirius' power to make stealing a unit a worthless risk for prosecution, and keeping a customers car from being ripped apart.

Once a radio is reported stolen, it should be locked shut. Innocent EBAY purchasers of stolen radios? The only innocent person here is the original purchaser whose car is a mess.

Sirius should NOT be a facilitator.
