"Sirius, XM, and HD: Consumer interest reality check" (Alexaholic)

It's truly mind boggling the useless information you come up with. Emphasis in this case on the word useless.

Google Trends are worthless - for all the reasons I've cited previously. It's impossible to determine the intent of a search using Google Trends. You don't know if people are searching because they're interested in getting the service or if they're a potential stakeholder looking for other information - like the merger announcement that's been speculated for months and came to fruition today.

Your Alexaholic info is similarly useless. Why? XM and Sirius are content providers. The iBiquity website hdradio.com is primarily about the technology.

Then of course, there are now HUNDREDS of web pages like this one: http://www.700wlw.com/pages/HD.html

I'd be willing to bet if you added up the web traffic of all HD Radio stations it would far exceed that of XM or Sirius.

Of course, that would be another useless comparison.

Here's another one for ya. Who woulda thunk it? A single "adult" site is more popular than XM or Sirius on the web! http://www.alexaholic.com/xmradio.com+sirius.com+danni.com

A totally useless comparison? Yup - just like the ones you're making.

Unless something drastic happens, like HD Radio becoming standard in new cars, which is highly-unlikely, looks like HD Radio/IBOC is dead.

That's not a very convincing defense of your useless stats.

HD Radio/IBOC is dead.

Then why is your namesake radio station broadcasting it?

"Dead Technology Walking"

"Deader than Microsoft's new iPod competitor Zune this holiday gift buying season will be HD radio. Expensive. It has no rhyme nor reason to anyone who doesn't own or operate a radio station. It's remarkable to me that any sane radio executive can believe that HD radio will give the industry the rebirth it needs to satisfy its prime audience -- Wall Street investors -- I mean, listeners."

"In-Stat: Digital Radio Set to Take Off"

"In 2006, 73 percent of respondents to an In-Stat U.S. consumer survey were aware of HD Radio on some level."

2) http://www.google.com/trends?q="hd+radio",+sirius,+xm&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all

As far as consumer-interest, HD Radio is "Dead Technology Walking".

Temperatures were in the teens and twenties over the weekend in the NC Mountains. This week they're headed toward the 50s. Or as 700WLW would put it, "Just more evidence of the demise of useless HD radio technology".
