Sirius/XM Hits 1

I listen to Sirius a lot to avoid my awful terrestorial choices. I listen Sirius XM Hits 1 a lot. I have to say it definitely could be programmed a lot better. It seems like they run the same limited imaging for years without updating. The midday DJ "Human Newman" is the worst CHR jock I have ever heard. On the weekends they just play a Countdown show and a "Breaking Music" show over and over. I'd rather just hear regular format. What do you think?

I think I'm the exact opposite. LOL. I like Human Numan- he's a veteran CHR jock who still sounds good.

I like the weekend programming, even with repeats. I only listen to Sirius/XM in the car, so I usually don't get to hear the whole countdown or the whole new music show at once. I do like to catch the new music show, so I'm glad they repeat it throughout the weekend.

The imaging I mostly agree with you on. Could definitely use an update, although I hope they keep the "Serving the universe..." top-of-the-hour jingle forever.

I disagree about Human Numan, his jokes are never funny. Sometimes they are so out of place it's ridiculous. He doesn't relate to the young listeners the station has at all. When he's off some guy fills in for him that says he is filling in for him everytime he opens the mic. What's the point of that?...I've always been a fan of Kid Kelly but I wonder if he is too old for this station too. I think he would be better doing middays and hire a real Top 40 DJ for afternoons....On the weekends I do like Spyder Harrison, but I wish they would throw in some more regular music hours.

Might be a generational thing. I listened to a lot of CHR in the early 90's, when every jock sounded like Human Numan, Spyder Harrison, and Kid Kelly. In fact, Spyder Harrison was my first ever favorite DJ back when I was around 10 and he was on Philadelphia's Eagle 106. There's definitely a CHR-the-way-it-used-to-be sound I get from Sirius Hits 1, that I don't get from terrestrial radio.

That said, I don't think this is inappropriate, because the audience profile for Sirius Hits 1 is a bit older than for the typical CHR. The under-25 set doesn't have access to satellite radio for the most part. It's usually something people get into when they buy their first car. A lot of the SH1 audience does remember 90's CHR radio.

Spyder Harrison worked at a lot of great CHRs. I particularly remember him in the late 80s doing nights at Y-100 Miami under the name JJ Walker. Prior to that he worked at Z-100 New York and before then at 96.3 WHYT Detroit. In the 90s he worked at several stations including WAPE 95.1 in Jacksonville, but speaking from my own personal experience I got to listen to him again when he did late nights at 93.3 FLZ in Tampa all the way till the mid Y2Ks.
As for Kid Kelly, wow simply wow. Watch the way this talent intros songs on the air, interacts with the audience, and works the board ALL AT THE SAME TIME:

That's old Kid... He was a legend.

These days, he doesn't sound anything like he used to. He sounds... tired. Still a great jock, but the magic doesn't seem to be there when he was a live and local jock.

Slinky, I appreciate your point of view. I just feel the station could be better.

I feel they could give more content in their breaks too. To me it sounds like those shifts are tracked weeks in advance. And what about a Saturday night mix show or something?

It seems like on some of the music channels on Sirius they want to live way in the past and not enough on the now. This is a "now" format.

I too listen to a lot of Sirus/XM Hits 1 due to the garbage that is my local supposed "CHR" station. Its a LOT better than my local, but I do have a few issues with it. Musically, they break new music very quickly which is great but, they tend to play a few cuts that frankly suck, and aren't "hit bound" as they like to say. Its like that try to force people to like it by playing it so much and after a few months when it is finally obvious it isn't going to be a hit, they take it out of rotation. They barely play recurrents, which I wouldn't mind hearing a bit more of (not too much though). The jocks are ok, but theres something about each one of them that I don't like. Human Numan is good but I agree that he does sound a little more like he'd fit better on a Hot A/C or something a little more adult. I like Kid Kelly. I think he's good. That being said though, he seems to try to fit too much in the short amount of time he has to talk and ends up sounding very rushed sometimes. Not to mention the nasaly sound (which he can't help). I don't really care for Spyder Harrison. We must not share the same type of sense of humor because he tends to think what he says is funny sometimes when it was just corny to me. It drives me crazy when he says his full name, Spyder Hawthorne Nathaniel Harrison III, atleast once every shift he does. That's just not necessary. I really do like the morning mash up though. They have great chemistry together and sound young, fresh, and entertaining. I like the balance of talk and music in the mornings as well. I think its perfect. All in all though I like the station. Its an excellent alternative to my local station.

He still goes by that name on SXM 70's on 7

I wonder why Madison is on First Wave and not Hits 1? She started off at CHR 103.7 the Q in Birmingham. Surely she would know that audeince. Maybe it is for the best because she is real annoying on First Wave.
