SIRIUSLY GETTING SIRIUS....BECAUSE RADIO CONTINUES TO GO DOWN HILL!

I've had the opportunity to listen to SIRIUS in a couple of rental cars in the last few weeks and let me tell you....There is absolutely no comparison to radio!

There's variety and choice abound....News, Music, Sports, Talk ! And, the people programming the different stations there seem to be tapping in to my brain, because they play great stuff on all the channels. I really hope that SIRIUS takes off, because corporate radio has become a joke! Or is it just me??

Thats funny Velvet,, Corporate radio has very little to offer,, John Mack Flanagan on Sunday morning is the ONLY THING worth tuning into! Ive had Sirius for 2 years 4 subs,, They have really made Radio come alive!!! Im sure weve all heard of Norm N Nite,, Cousin Brucie, and Bill Rock! Sirius has JJ Walker (AKA Walker Child) on Totally 70s! Bay Area Radio only has ONE DJ who does radio the way i like it! NONE OTHER THAN JMF!!! I pay 12.95 for the 1st sub and 6.95 for the other 3!! ITS well worth it! Isnt it strange that CBS fm has Pat st John middays and hes on Sirius 60s channel too! The format and DJs are perfect,,, DJs make radio work, and Ive yet to hear it here!! The clocks tickin and KFRC just doesent impress me! I ve got to day the VO guy on 106.9 is lousy,, Thats John Mack Flanagan or Bobby Ocean territory! Sirius pays big bucks for Cousin Brucie,,a real legend,, In 1964, the Cuz,,was a huge promoter of the Beatles when he was on WNBC,, The suits at Sirius know how to pick em!! One more thing, try and drive to LA with terrestrial,,,,halfway down 5,,,,its immpossible to listen,,XM and Sirius,,have their place,,, Oh and by the way,,XMs 60s channel has the best,Top of the Hour jingle ive ever heard! The only one which come close is the KYA 1260 jingle that Chris Edwards White still uses on his stream! I know you read these Chris,,Im always listening at home ,, Thanks for keeping KYA alive,,,,-Kenny-

My comment had nothing to do with the kind of content you can find on satellite radio vs. terrestrial radio, it had to do with the way the message was worded. Who talks like that?

I've been kicking the idea of giving Sirius a try around in my head...Kenny swears by XM, but I have XM and am not very impressed with it. About thisclose to canceling my sub.

In 1964, the Cuz,,was a huge promoter of the Beatles when he was on WNBC

Close, Kenny...it was WABC.

i rented a car in october of 07 for a weekend drive to so-cal. it also had sirius and i really enjoyed it. after 2 years of life with out howard stern, i got to listen again. i also listened to other stations and even got to hear the weather report for detroit that day. when i finally get a new car, sirius will b a part of it. ford offers 6 months free service.

and who has a new car for just 6 months? you going to pay monthly for radio after that? the reason XM and Sirius don't take off is people are unwilling to pay for what most believe should be free... you get in your car and you hear radio.

JUSTINCASE,,, Youve got to be kidding, I wouldnt go anywhere in a car with out XM or Sirius! The fee they charge is a bargain,,,its about 44cents a day! I know people who do Starbucks for 5.00 a day,30 days =150.00 wow! Till Terestrial has something worth listening to,, Satellite is the ticket! On Sirius 6 , mornings w/Magic Mat,,,or XM one the 60s channel Phlash Phelps! 18 songs in a hour,,huh KFRC might produce 4 songs! in a 1/2 hour! Try a trip to LA on int 5 with radio,,its vast cesspool of nothing! Here in the Bay Area,,, radio is so far from loyal to its listeners,, You never have to worry about a Flip in XM or Sirius! Ive got 5XM subs and 3 Sirius, Its all about Entertainment,,and commercial free radio! I went to Arizona last summer, took my XM my/fi and upon getting the rental car,,in Las vagas I was on,, never heard any Vegas radio! More and more Im hearing more Sats in 7-11s and resturants,,,people do pay

To add to XM's comments, pay-radio is absolutely a great trade-off if you can afford it. What you get for your money is tremendous!

Sirius/XM = inspired, fun radio with tons of variety. And commercial free.

Radio = predictable, boring, corporate, lots of commercials.

Uh, Kenny and airpab...

XM is not commercial-free. Maybe the channels you two listen to are, and that's great, but one of the channels I listen to isn't. You ever listen to 150, for example? It's one of the comedy channels, and they run spots on it. This is one of the things I don't like about XM. I'm not paying for a monthly subscription to hear commercials. There are plenty of terrestrial stations on which I can hear those.

Is Sirius the same way? Because if it is, what's the difference between it and traditional, broadcast radio, other than nationwide coverage? I realize that some would say that the programming is better, but that's a matter of opinion as I see it.

Not to repeat myself, but I look at something that I pay to listen to as a haven from such content. That's why I don't subscribe to any magazines. If I'm paying them to read their magazine, I don't want to see pages and pages of advertising. I'm not paying to have advertisers try to cajole even more money out of me. Maybe that's just the way it is, but that doesn't mean I have to like it, or buy it.

Rather than spend money listening to someone else's choices, I copy my own CDs and MP3s to a player and listen to that. It also helps that I have a lot of friends who play in bands I like, so I have tons of their CDs as well.

On the 50s 60s and 70s channel, never a commercial,, over 15 songs per hour,,,on the 60s channel ,,except for the "chicken man segment @ 10:22 am! And no commercials on Sirius ,,,at least not Sirius Gold, Sirius 6, and Totally 70s,,commercial free! Ive never heard Cousin Brucie,,Norm N Nite,,Majic Mat, or Pat St John,,play one commercial! For a measley 12.95 a month,,Ive got only one complaint,,the Midday guy on XMs 60s channel Pat Clarke spent too many years in FM,, Hes getting very repeitive! Pat if you read these and i know you do, give Spiral Staircase,, More Today Than yeterday a rest! Also ease up on Brown Eyed Girl,,,
4 XMs since 1/04
3 Sirius since 12/06
