SIRIUS's Howard effect only nets 244K subs higher than XM

Well for the huge numbers they had for the entire year, the 4th quarter was obviously the most crucuial. Howard's last push, the holidays, etc etc. Be all end all I expected XM to get crucified in the numbers. The 4th quarter numbers released, Sirius only outgained XM by a net of 244,325 subs (1,142,640 XM to 898,315 Sirius). Granted, I will give respect to the fact that actual surge number is actually larger since Sirius had to make a lot of subs to break even with XM. I did think the number was going to be MUCH larger than that. Iwill be interested to see Q1 to catch the XMas activations.

Anyone know what Sirius had for subs in each quarter leading up to Q4? I am glad to see XM carry such a strong number and hopefully they will beat Sirius in Q1 before the "Oprah effect" goes into motion.

Oprah will not have much of an effect, when you consider which demo's buy satellite radios. Oprah's core audience largely comprises older females, who are less likely to purchase satellite radio.

The ones who do buy, will surely be disappointed when they don't find any original programming.

Oprah could get half of those bonnies to buy a moldy loaf of bread just on her word alone. Howie hit his numbers but looks to have overestimated his audience otherwise SIRIUS would be banging 10 mil. subs by now.

No original programming? You mean to say terrestrial has some huge original programming? Where is it? Are they hiding it in the closet? Put the original programming monster on the witness protection program until they all pop it out at once? Between MIKE, JACK, JILL, FRED, BARNEY...they are playing a slight increase in music at the expense of the DJ.

Which demo are you talking about specifically? The ones that would listen to her channel 24/7? Or would they be disinterested in Take 5? The Power? PGA? How about the people that will be happy to find a 50's channel with music that has all but disappeared from terrestrial radio? Or the 60's channel? Which demo of Oprah's would be totally disinterested in XM? I think you're underestimating the power of Oprah. I am not an Oprah-holic...I think what she did regarding Hermes was nothing but egotistically appauling, but she did it.

Sorry, while she was able to get some fat, overweight housewives to join really lame book clubs, I am not banking that Oprah will be able to get her loyal audience of middle aged women (and gay men) to buy XM radio. If they do buy the radio, they'll cancel the subscription...mark my words.

Say what you will about Howard's brand of humor, but I still say Oprah is more of a disgusting human being!

Fat and overweight.. So you can be both now?

Say what you want about stereotypes, but I still stay NewsSleuth is the best at them!
