SiriusXM reception questions

This is more of an engineering question.

I really wonder why, driving through the NC mountains this past weekend, my satellite radio kept cutting out. It was a clear day, and it became so annoying, I turned it off. Years ago, I remember being on the beach in Fort Lauderdale with my portable sat radio and I got zero reception. One block in from the beach, it was perfect. It couldn't have been a clearer day and zero blockage.

Yet, when I'm in a parking deck, I still get reception.

Anyone know why?

Parking structures. They have local repeaters in many cities just for bridges and parking structures.

Heavy foliage will attenuate the satellite signal. But typically in the mountains the road engineers have made deep cuts in the rock to route the road. That cuts off the satellite signal. I have that issue on the Mass. Turnpike West of Springfield.

Sounds like some local signal on a nearby frequency is desensitizing your receiver.
I used to drive up and down South Miami Beach and my unit always went dead
in a two-block range even though it was unblocked to the southern sky.
I suspect that I was driving next to a strong something-or-other in two gigahertz range.
