Sitting on the Beach!

D

Guest
I know from time to time, some of US are sitting on the beach, waiting for something to come about... Does anyone know if 1190 and 1160 are actually going to be placing people for shifts? or are they going to continue with liners and bumpers and sweepers intersect and seque songs into?

Will there be News, or Traffic on these stations? and if so-- will they use one of the many sources available to them through the traffic reporting services?

It is just a thought!
______________

This company will sit on these stations until someone comes alng and buys them. They buy and sell. That is what they did with 96.7 until ABC bought it.So..with that been said, there will be no jocks and no traffic. Enjoy the music while it lasts.

They did the same with 106.9 in Kerens and 107.1 in Campbell. All Music, same psa on the top of the hour. They then sold both to the Ranch Folks who are wasting both them as well.

"The Mighty 1190" does sound good though ... to me.

Huge playlist. Some clever liners. Not the smarmy, in-your-face stuff like Jack which gets old pretty quickly.

But everyone is right. The stations ... and the music will soon be history.

Not to contradict you, but I did hear a jock doing traffic reports this morning on 1190 while on my way to work.

It's not a jock it is contracted traffic reports...990am does the same thing..they are tailored for each station but it is a service that they pay for
______________

Okay, you've said that before in so many words. What would you
do with those stations if you had them?

Considering there is a large segment of a population around cedar creek lake ,Athens to Mabank to Kaufman to Seagoville being under served. I would go live ,probably stick with country, have some local news in the morning that pertains to the region, and local sports on 106.9.

On 107.1 that area is a bit crowded with country so I would try AC,perhaps a Sunny Type format . Live on the mornings and afternoons, plus weekends. News in the mornings, plus local sports. A lot of experimenting to see what works and won't.

I don't know if I'd stick with country, considering how many
similar signals are available, like KCKL, KPLX, KSCS, KKUS and
KNUE. But I do like your idea of the local news and sports.

AC or soft AC just might work there, and again the local
news and sports could pay off. I'd agree with going live in
the mornings for sure, but the budget might not be able to
stand afternoons; weekend staffing would have to be bare bones
if it was done at all.

Good pointsm but ut I feel if you are going to buy a station as an investment,INVEST IN IT. Make the funds available, have a game plan, make yourself known in the area and the rest will definitely fall in and work.
Hire good talent, not the local grocery sacker. The better you sound the more listeners you attract, and the sales will be good.

Don't forget 1190 is still in a LMA with Clear Channel - they are providing
the traffic - and they are allowed to sell spots through Total Traffic.

106.9 does carry Ennis High School Football. Sold at the right price it should be real money maker.

KCKL is not truly a player, with proper management it has potential but they rather concentrate on Malakoff,Athens, and Cedar creek lake. The signal goes further but there is no effort. KKUS and KNUE is too far for the people in that area for them to get excited about. KPLX, does well because it is DALLAS, same for KSCS. The area is ripe for a good solid country station current or classic to serve the area I mentioned. The Proposed Mabank station may just do that if managed right even though it will be an AM.

You're right about KCKL not being a player, and I don't look
for that to change anytime soon. But of the stations I mentioned
earlier, there's one that seems to have a loyal following in the
area: KKUS.

As far as the proposed Mabank station on 890, who knows when it
might hit the air since it was filed during the AM Major Change
Window and nothing is really happening with those applications yet.
Jeffrey Eustis, owner of KTXV 890 in Frankston, is the applicant for
Mabank and he specified that he would surrender the license for KTXV
if the Mabank station is approved. With that in mind I wouldn't
look for a country format on 890 from Mabank. It would probably
be Tejano or Regional Mexican.
