Too many eggs in one basket? As in Macon Ga.'s 6 station failure it sounds like they didn't have UPS that could handle the load. A UPS that can lasted a hour or two if properly sized and can save equipment from those nasty surges. Most telephone switching offices have a battery system that can last at least 4 hours. These are usually "jell pack" that protects from acid leaks.
