Six Flags pulls advertising from Project 9-6-1 after morning show comments

Six Flags was not pleased with something the Giant Brian morning show said about the incident last Saturday with the kid who got hit by the roller coaster. Six Flags confirmed the company has pulled ads from the station for an indeterminate amount of time but wouldn't tell me what was actually said that upset them. No response from anybody at Project 9-6-1. Giant Brian normally offers podcasts of its shows online. Yesterday's show is conveniently omitted. Did anyone hear it?

Even though I don't know if I personally would have gone with it the way they did. I would not say that it was "way out of line". Yes, its a horrible thing that happened. However, does that mean that you can't talk about it? The damn kid jump over two fences to get his hat back. He ignored two signs telling you not to do what HE did. If its out of line to talk about that specific subject. Then its out of line to talk about the DARWIN AWARDS.

The only reason why SIXFLAGS pulled thier spots from the show is because these guys actually talked about it. It wasn't a quick NEWS STORY then move on, like I would imagine the ATALANTA NEWS STATIONS did. SIXFLAGS didn't pull thier spots from those TV stations. 6FLAGS will be back on that station.

I heard what they talked about. The pair wondered where the kid's head went.

“Not to be morbid, but where did that head go? It didn't just fall on the ground," Giant Brian said Tuesday morning. "That had to be shot to the moon."

Shaffee: "...You never hear from the guy whose job is to pick up the head. Do you use your hands? I assume with rubber gloves? Do you use a shovel? Do you use a pooper scooper?"

"Oh stop it," Giant Brian said.

Shaffee: "Maybe a bigger one."

Giant Brian: "Salad tongs."

Shaffee: "Pitchfork?"

Giant Brian: "Nooo.... stop that!"

Shaffee: "You never find out."

Giant Brian: "You pick it up like you pick up a dead bird or dead rat or something. You open up a garbage can and kick it into the bag and you just tie it up. You go uhhh! Noooo!"

Shaffee: "Then you hold it out with your arm extended as you walk, like 'Clear the way everybody!' "

Giant Brian: "Don't touch me! Head!"

Then they interview two men from Biotrauma, a company that cleans up crime scenes and body parts. .

This just in, Eric and I, ah I mean Larry, have been suspended. Clear Channel heard there was a problem at 96 Rock involving inapropirate comments and out of habit Randall Bloomquist suspended the Regular Guys.

OMG - Rodney, that's the funniest thing I have heard in a long time!!!! ROFL!

Rodney, that was Tuesday's you heard. At least, that is when they interviewed the Biotrauma guys. They also talked about it on Monday and were debating the trajectory of the head and how far it would travel, how far the blood spatter would be and the size of the brain matter. They compared it to punting a football. I hope the kids parents didn't hear it.
Not that I'm against shock jocks or funny bits, but the Giant show is neither shocking or funny.
disclaimer- I ..uh.. only listen for the music.

Look, there's a time and place for the whole "shock jock" routine but you have to admit, those comments were in bad taste. Sure the kid did something wrong but c'mon, have some respect.

Granted the kid did something really stupid. And he paid for it. Did none of us do really stupid things when we were 15?
I have a 15 year old son and let me ask you guys... if this was your son you were making funeral arrangements for, how would you feel about hearing stuff like this on the radio?

You can get ratings without going into the gutter and honestly, there's just no need or excuse for this.

The content of programs is why your radio has a tuning control. If you find something offensive, use it. Likewise, sponsors/advertisers vote with their pockets. I sampled Giant Brian some months ago, found his program wanting in many respects, and tuned elsewhere. I do not consider myself the censor of what he has to say though, simple economics will drive his schtick.

I can see where they were going and, in some way, many of us are kind of curious as to what they were talking about. After all, why do you think the CSIs are so popular? But, I do agree that the comments were way out of line. I think they could've taken their idea and would've been entertaining and informative since they had the experts from Biotrauma, if they would've been tasteful and respectful concerning the sensitivity of the issue, and not tried to be funny and, literally, immature. Plus, I don't think they should've milked the subject for two days. Mention it as a short news story on Monday, while off air set up the interview with the Biotrauma guys, and leave it alone until the interview.

The fact that Six Flags pulled the spots after the comments made goes to show that one sponsor, rightfully so, wasn't too thrilled about the insensitivity of it all.

Also, a "tuning knob" has nothing to do with being able to tell whether something is offensive or not. If you listen you either suspect something is going to happen and hope it does or you don't listen at all. But to listen unexpectedly to hear offensive stuff that just comes flying out of the radio like projectile vomit is going over the line ... and something a tuning knob can't control, nor can any listener.

No wonder "Free FM" failed. Even 18-24 year old guys wouldn't support it.

I DON'T BLAME SIX FLAGS FOR PULLING ADVERTISING. THE INCIDENT WASN'T FUNNY AT ALL. MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

What else do we expect from a morning show host who pummels unsuspecting women at bar events?

Oh, yeah. Good cover up by CC on that one. Anyone else know about the Giant assaulting the woman at the bar gig story?

What? Sounds heinous - do tell...

Does anybody else think this may have been just a lame attempt to build street cred as 'shock jocks' or otherwise grab some publicity for their weak morning show?

The alternative is that they lack common sense.

Allegedly she said something he didn't like, so he shoved a cake in her face and dragged her to the ground. The girl had scrapes and bruises but wasn't seriously hurt. He had to run out the back before the good old boys got to him with some serious southern hospitality.
