Six Pappas Stations to be Auctioned

Subject to court approval, David Stapleton, trustee of the Pappas Liquidating Trust, will be accepting bids in connection with the sale of six Nebraska television stations formerly owned by Pappas Telecasting, which filed for bankruptcy in 2008.

The stations are: KFXL Lincoln, KHGI Kearney, KHGI-LD O’Neill, KWNB Hayes Center, KWNB-LD McCook and KHGI-CD North Platte.

Qualified Bids must be submitted by 5 p.m. ET on Oct. 19. An auction for the assets (if necessary) will take place at 10 a.m. ET on Oct. 27 at the offices of Pepper Hamilton LLP, Hercules Plaza, Suite 5100, 1313 Market Street, Wilmington, Del.

Any party wishing to participate in the process and submit a bid for the assets must submit a bid to the Liquidating Trustee, David Stapleton ([email protected]), to Frank Higney of Kalil ([email protected]) and to counsel for the liquidating trustee, David Stratton ([email protected]), prior to the bid deadline.

Philip Lombardo-Citadel Communications: Maybe Lombardo-Citadel would be willing to acquire NTV as a whole to operate NTV/KFXL in tandem with existing in market TV station KLKN in Lincoln, Nebraska with NTV/KFXL in Kearney having KHGI being licensed to Kearney, Nebraska and KWNB being licensed to Hayes Center, Nebraska within the enitre Lincoln-Grand Island-Hastings-Kearney TV DMA market footprint:

KLKN can have the ABC affiliation to itself while KFXL and FOX affiliation is folded into parent NTV to become the hybrid NTV/KFXL combo:

KLKN: KLKN ABC 8.1(720 HDTV), NTV/KFXL FOX 8.2(720 HDTV)
KHGI-KWNB: NTV/KFXL FOX 13.1/6.1(720 HDTV), KLKN ABC 13.2/6.2(720 HDTV)
The stand alone KFXL licensed station in Lincoln can be auctioned off in the incentive auction with it's programming being shifted to KLKN's digital multicast streamed carrier on KLKN's 8.2 while KLKN continues to broadcast their programming on their main channel on 8.1 in Lincoln.

Perry Sook-Nexstar by the way is in the process of acquiring KCWI from Pappas with Nexstar intended to run KCWI in tandem with WOI in Des Moines, Iowa. Nexstar may want to get even with Gray by acquiring NTV as a response to the Gray-Schurz deal with Gray acquiring WDBJ in Roanoke where Nexstar owns WFXR/WWCW.

Broadcasters that Harry Pappas Telecasting itself would rather prefer to sell NTV to those that have owned and operated TV stations in the same TV markets where 10-11/(ex former KHAS) KSNB NBC Nebraska owner-parent Gray Television owned and operate TV stations:

Sinclair Broadcast Group to allow NTV/KFXL to reunite with KMPH/KFRE, KDBC, KPTM/KXVO, and KPTH/KMEG from Pappas ownership-parentship and WWHO from Fant ownership-parentship. Sinclair may want to get even with Gray by acquiring NTV as a response to Gray acquiring WJRT in Flint, Michigan and WTVG in Toledo,Ohio from SJL/Lilly, KCRG in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from the Cedar Rapids Gazette Company, and to the Gray-Schurz deal with Gray acquiring WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia where Sinclair owns WSET in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Brian William Brady and Jon Rand-Northwest Broadcasting/The TV Station Group to allow NTV/KFXL to reunite with KSWT from Pappas ownership-parentship with KSWT being part of a Big 3 duopoly with KYMA in Yuma, Arizona. Brady-Northwest Broadcasting/The TV Station Group may want to get even with Gray by acquiring NTV as a response to Gray acquiring KGNS in Laredo,Texas from Yellowstone/Frontier Radio and acquiring KNEX-LP from Brady's Eagle Creek banner. Also for having to negotiate with Gray and Hoak to broadcast FOX programming on the digital multicast streams of Gray and Hoak stations in small markets.

Mark Nalbone-Wyomedia may want to get even with Gray by acquiring NTV as a response to Gray for acquiring upstart KCWY in Casper, Wyoming and KGWN in Cheyenne, Wyoming and satellite station KSTF in Scottsbluff from Yellowstone/Frontier Radio, and to the Gray-Schurz deal with Gray acquiring KOTA in Rapid City, South Dakota with satellite station KDUH in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.

The combined Meredith Media General may want to get even with Gray by acquiring NTV as a response to the Gray-Schurz deal with Gray acquiring WDBJ in Roanoke,Virginia where Lin Media-Media General owns WSLS.

Duane Lammers-Granite Broadcasting & Peter Markham-Silver Point Capital may want to get even with Gray by acquiring NTV as a response to Gray for being the owner-parent of WNDU in South Bend, Indiana as the official NBC affiliated station for televised Notre Dame home games at South Bend which is northwest from neighboring TV DMA market Fort Wayne, Indiana where Granite operates NBC affiliated station of their own as WISE and managed ABC affiliated station WPTA for Malara.
