Sixers on YSP

Just as I needed my Real Rock Fix, which is hard to find in this market, YSP is airing the Sixers. This really bugs me, bad enough they yak all day, and Couzin is repulsive, at least his show plays some good Rock. Why don't they just kill the music portion of the format and let someone else do it. I don't understand why they cannot put these non-Eagles, sports games on WOGL, I mean how repititious and boring is that station, their listeners can live without Smokey for a few hours. WOGL should be the back-up for WIP, not the only good Rock music outlet we have. I hope the game does not run into the M&H show.

The fact that they do music part time does not stop anyone from attempting to put on another rock station. For the fifty millionth billionth time... it is about the DOLLAR BILLS.

Your observation is correct. However the reality of it is not. There is enough money in this market to support another full time well programmed rock outlet. WMMR banks on Preston and Steve, Pierre and it's heritage. It is not a well programmed rock station. WMGK is a classic soft rock station, it doesn't breed loyalty. WYSP does not play music in its key day parts. Musically, outside of being a little heavy on some of the repeating, they are close to a descent young rock format. This is a blue collar town. Most rock shows and festivals do very well in Philly. This town from a marketing standpoint is a rock (and roll).....F it....ROCK AND ROLL hot spot. Outside of P&S, MMR is beatable. Here is why it won't happen, the commitment to the format and the city would be more difficult then just throwing on a consult created national format. I feel so confident I am willing to bet my Mercedes CL500..

RIGHT! But it has nothing to do with YSP playing music part time as the original poster stated. ALSO, it is about money because the commitment to the format IS more difficult then just throwing on some format ala BEN. Which means you would need expensive talent expensive PDs expensive MDs...which would mean you need to sell alot of ads at a pretty nice clip... which means its about MONEY. Its always about money.

It would be too expensive to run the kind of station that would be competitive is basically what you told me. And I agree.

It's no big deal. It only happens a couple of times. Infinity had Temple on WPHT and Flyers on WIP so they had YSP pick up the Sixers. It's not too often when all three play at the same time.

This was only the 2nd time this year - YSP had a Flyers game on right after they switched to "FREE" FM.
