Skin Radio Identity Crisis?

What the heck are they trying to do?
This station is so hard to listen to.
It actually makes me feel uncomfortable when I listen to it.
It reminds me of a high school station or teenagers pretending to be DJ's in their bedroom.
All due respect to the new owner, but it just aint working...for me anyways.

Anyone know if the present format is permanent or will the owner change it to a real station that real people will listen to.

Great location, great market, horrible format.

Is it a great radio station? Not really..but I give them credit for at least trying something different. I'm happy that someone is trying to pull off a full-time Alternative format in Philadelphia again. Will it last? I doubt it. I don't mind listening to music on AM, but their signal is the major problem.

I for one am not that big of a fan of most of the on-air staff. Even if they want the music to be the "star" of the station, the DJs still need personalities.

And I assume I'm in a prime listening location, since I never have any real problem tuning in the station. From what most say on here, its rough to hear in areas.

Well hey, heres a gold star for them- they actually have a website now! Not just the page with 6 links on it.

Don’t forget, the WHAT AMHD 5k dynamic range threshold of pain, or perhaps that is just what the format is designed to emulate, a continuous measure of audio punishment.

I think you mean "to 5kHz audio frequency response", but I get the idea.

Are you guys knocking them for playing Alt rock? Or knocking them cause the on air talent sucks?

I'm not trying to defend anybody, it's the same boat at WCHE as well...

Now What?

With WRFF being on the air for a few months now, what direction is SkinRadio taking these days? If I were them, I'd be playing stuff that 'RFF wouldn't touch! I don't think I've seen SR make a dent in the ratings.

Clearly they're feeling the pressure from 104.5. Lately they've been posting bulletins on Myspace giving away free tickets.

Yesterday i was listening to them and they sounded good. Music wise not audio quality lol.

As a member of the Skin Radio public relations department, I'd like to announce the station's format change. The new station, Martini Lounge Radio, launched early this morning. Skin Radio fans can still enjoy the station at skinradio.com through iTunes or Window's Media Player.

Martini Lounge Radio - New Standards Format Debuts on WHAT 1340 AM

Philadelphia – Today, Marconi Broadcasting owned WHAT 1340 AM launched a new Contemporary Standards format. The new station is called Martini Lounge Radio and will feature classic standards from Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett and Peggy Lee combined with new music from artists like Michael Buble’, Harry Connick Jr and Diana Krall. To celebrate its Grand Opening, Martini Lounge Radio is airing “September With Sinatra” – continuous Frank Sinatra music through Labor Day weekend and beyond.

Marconi Broadcasting President , Tom Kelly comments, “This music has been missing from the Philadelphia radio dial far too long. Across the country, baby boomers, now in their 40’s and 50’s, have shown tremendous interest in this fabulous style of music. We know that Philadelphia has always had an appreciation for the standards, and we are proud to bring them back on Martini Lounge Radio. And I could not imagine a better way to begin than with continuous Frank Sinatra.”

The station’s prior Alternative music format, Skin Radio, will continue exclusively on-line via its live internet stream at http://www.skinradio.com Skin Radio features music from local Philadelphia bands as well as a blend of modern rock, independent and reggae music.
