Skinny Bobby Harper - the good ole days

This guy brings back memories. Talented guy. He was prepared everyday. Not like the folk we now have on morning shows. Funny as they come in a natural way. Oh those were the days. I have heard that he was the inspiration for Johnny Fever. Any truth to that? I also heard he could be a hard man to work with. Very demanding. Not necessarily a bad thing.

He was my hero.

I remember back before I got into radio, I was listening to Bobby, while driving down to Atlanta He was doing a bit.
He said, "We're gonna play question and answers." (It was an early version of Jepardy or Karnack). "I'll give you the answer to the question and you have to give me question. The answer to the question is kutcha. First caller with the correct answer to the question wins tickets to Lake Spivey."
He broke for commercials. When he came back he said "No one got the question right. So, here's the answer to the question..Kutcha. The question is What is Mr. Ballsoff's first name."

I nearly wrecked my car!!

This was back in 1967, so you can imagine how shocking something like this was to hear on the radio.

Then, on my first day at 96rock, I walked into the control room and there sat Wendall Brown and Bobby Harper!!!! I couldn't believe it.

R.I.P. my friend.

Correct on question #one. Skinny Bobby WAS Johnny Fever and that's who the character was patterned after. Not necessarily true on point number two except to say that when you're trying to execute funny bits and business on the air in real time you definitely need your support people(board ops, producers) paying attention and on their marks, too. Otherwise the guy on the air has a right to chew a little ass every now and then. Everybody knew the rules when working with Bobby. I know whereof I speak. He was a great talent while his health was good.
