This morning all across the radio dial the usual suspects were breaking up and sometimes disappearing completely. Couldn't catch IDs on most but one that blew 91.3 The Summit out of the water was WGTE out of Toledo. Signal so strong even their RDS info came across. Wonder if Canadian wildfire smoke contributed to it.

This is one of those times of year that pathway between Detroit and Toledo opens up. It's a two way street. I've been in Detroit and heard wmji loud and clear while the window is open.
In Detroit on AM 850 comes in quite well in the day, 1100 next, but neither as good as 760 or 800 do here. Maybe because their transmitters are closer to lake erie while ours are not, plus 850 pushes a lot of the daytime north.
And even though it's been years since 1100 moved back to the Carl Smith site I still hear they are not pushing a full 50 kw because of the other stuff mounted on the stick. What's the truth?

I'm glad you said something @Santa fe because WTAM's signal has been noticeably worse on my last few visits to northeast Ohio, three in total since the middle of June. In general, it has been weak in places where it should blast.
First noticed it during a work trip to Canton in mid-June. Then when my wife and I went to a Guardians game in late June, I swear I heard some interference on 1100 around Brunswick, which definitely should not happen. In any case, it was phasing between Ashland and Mansfield, 10-15 miles closer to Cleveland then I have usually heard it.
Two weekends ago when we visited Conneaut, the nighttime signal was garbage, markedly worse than it should be despite being in the cancellation zone. We could barely hear 1100 driving around town and had to depend on WKBN and SiriusXM for the Guardians game that night.
Back to not hijacking the thread ... WJR and CKLW seem to blast into Cleveland and along the lake. They are two of the best AM signals 24/7 in Conneaut.

Last night reception of WJMO was also a bit dicey especially on the more inexpensive variety of radios. Lots of skywave chatter heard underneath. And yes, I noticed over the weekend that WTAM seemed a slight bit noisier than the other two 50 kilowatt stations. When WHKW 1220 is coming in better and significantly cleaner than WTAM 1100 you know you got a problem. 
An additional FM station has recently been added to the list of authorized EAS LP-1 stations that can be monitored in NE Ohio in addition to WTAM so reception of especially night time messages can be more reliably received and forwarded through the chain.
