"Why would several non-broadcasters ask YOU why radio sounds tired?" :
Maybe it's because of my 35 year connection in the business...and the fact that I don't have to "clear my thoughts" with a GM, PD or broadcast conglomerate before I write 'em down? Most people who know my work also know that I won't lie about a profession I have a passion for?
Just because I don't LIVE, EAT, SLEEP & BREATHE radio on a day-to-day basis DOESN'T mean I'm not qualified to express an opinion?
Once again....you've nailed the reason why radio (in New England alon with several other markets) sounds t-i-r-e-d.
The suits expect PD's to construct and execute every format perfectly! [Even the ones with canned or satellite programming]. Unless they've got an assistant or at the very least...a damn good secretary, it's an impossible task to pull off!
Judging from the number of responsibilities that MOST program directors are now accountable for...it's impossible to provide a lot of attention when there are 5, 10 or more radio stations housed in the same building!
I keep thinking of an old Allan Sherman line [From "Peter and the Commissar"--which was a musical spoof on Prokofiev's classical piece: "PETER & THE WOLF"!].
"....and we've all heard the saying that is true as well as witty
that a camel is a 'horse' that was designed by a committee!" ;D
