SLEIGH BELLS ON 106.1

I'm noticing a LOT of Def Leppard, an artist I wouldn't have suspected as a "core" artist. Curious, but not (yet) annoying.

They wimped out on "C'mon Ride The Train," playing a remix that succeeded in eliminating all of the rap from this rap song! BOO-O-O. Either play the right mix, or don't play it at all.

...And I'm sure KRVT's numbers should skyrocket after this! There's no question now: Kool is DEAD in Tulsa. 8)

(Still surprised I haven't had to turn away yet; tomorrow will tell the tale, I suspect...)

I am 33 years old and loving the music (at least for now). I am also afraid that it if the library of music isn't expanded or rotated, it will burn pretty quickly. Like NightAire said, 90s pop music doesn't test as well as 80s pop music, thus the library will likely remain limited.

What Def Leppard songs did they play? They had some more modest hits into the early to mid 90s. Even though "Pour Some Sugar On Me" came out in 1988, I think it would still fit well on a 90s branded station because it tests so well among the masses. Heck, I even heard "Pour Some Sugar On Me" once on KJ103 circa 2007.

I heard the non-rap version of Snow "Informer". As In_Tulsa said, I wouldn't mind hearing a few more hip hop titles. Mix 96.5 already covers the Hootie/Alanis/Matchbox 20 side of the 90s, Z104.5 owns the Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Bush side of the genre. Outside of perhaps one of the rhythmic stations doing a retro show, does anyone else in the market regularly play 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G. Snoop and Dr. Dre?

What is on 93.5 these days? Is it still the 60s based format, or did it flip to the 70s/80s based format that was previously on 106.1?

I've always been told pop music burns much faster than rock. The same person also said dance burns even faster. Keep in mind, though, that the 90's churned out a ton of hits, just like every decade before (and after) it. So, like you said, they can probably keep it fresh, but they'll have to watch the playlist pretty closely.

You'll probably keep waiting for a lot of those hip hop titles. Hip hop titles burn about as quickly as dance tracks. There's just not a lot of it that you can safely play. The 80's stations pretended most of that stuff, including DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, never existed, outside of specialty weekends and AT-40 replays anyway. Most likely, Gen X Radio will want to be one stop shopping for fans of 90's music who are sick of changing between two or three stations to get what they want.

It's a 60's/70's based format.

The good news: more welcome musical surprises today.

The bad news: looks like whatever their "hot" category is (it apparently includes Def Leppard's "Animal" and Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit"), it turns over about every 15 - 20 hours. :(

I've heard Animal, Pour Some Sugar, and... Love Bites? Can't remember now.

They finally played some songs today I wasn't too crazy about, but at least for now I'm willing to set through them to hear things like Snap's "The Power" (...or I will attack / and you won't like that!" hee-hee-hee). A great ID today said, "you'll love some of these songs, some of them will make you smile, and some of them will make you think, "what was I thinking when I put THAT on my mix tape?" COOL attitude. 8)

Also heard a traffic update after 3 today, CC-Tulsa's regular guy. Good to hear some content.

The liners in & out of stopsets are cracking me UP: "we're trying to help the sales staff make budget goals this month, so here's some commercials.." "o.k, O.K., we'll try not to stop the music again for a long, LONG time... we know how ANNOYING that is..." :D

If does have a bit of a Jack feel, but more "this is your music" than "this is our music." That has to be good for the audience.

This jury is still out, but I'm sure enjoying it so far!

Well, I set a browser favorite directly to their streaming player, so I guess I approve so far! I could do without the tertiary rap like 2pac, and wouldn't mind dumping the rock either; but I live in OKC, so I'm overrocked...Tulsans may be okay with it. As for 94.7 The Brew, it's okay for what it is, and I'll probably put it as my 6th button in the car, because I just can't keep sitting through the crap on 105.3 The Spy that nobody but Ferris has ever heard. I would agree with wxman76, though, about Def...90s hits like Miss You In A Heartbeat, Two Steps Behind, When Love And Hate Collide, and Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad would be better.

Here's my gripe, though...I'd like to get a fuller picture of what GenX is doing, but is BDS down in Tulsa? I couldn't get anything on any station tonight or last night...

There we go, You Get What You Give segueing into Motownphilly...how sad that nobody believes this would work in OKC.

I heard Def Leppard "Hysteria" about 10 minutes ago. I also heard Johnny Gill "Rub You The Right Way" within the last 30 minutes. That would definitely be an "Oh Wow!" tune other than that I heard it yesterday in the 6 PM hour. Of course, their response would probably be, "Thanks for listening," but I haven't lived in Tulsa since '96 and, thus, can't get a diary!

If it's like the CC Brew we've had in Columbus (by far the worst market in the Top 100 -- OKC's *waaay* better even though it's smaller), you're going to get burnt on big-time repetition -- and soon.  It's anything but a big-list format, at least the way they do it here.  The music gets a substantial freshening maybe every 5 months, then 80% of what you hear the same stuff ad nauseum, whether it's "Sweet Home Alabama" or "You've Got to Fight for Your Right (to Party)."  I've found it interesting that CC hasn't just "Premium Choiced" this, since the Brews all seem to sound pretty much the same.  Maybe that's next.

I'm still a fan but keep getting whapped with repeats... may have to limit my listening to the same 60 minutes every day or something...

Here's another 30-something who is NOT impressed:
...The station even sounds pre-programmed, over-processed and vacuum-sealed. Perhaps it's only the tin Spam can at the end of a very long piece of corporate string...

...like a typical Gen-Xer, I'm miffed and feeling cantankerous about the whole thing. In a nutshell: I loathe that yet another no-name radio station programmer in wherever-non-Oklahoma-town decides to "shortlist" the tunes of my youth and poorly redefines a generation into a corporate radio "brand" that's loosely aimed at a commercial audience age of "30-somethings."...

...Hey, music fans: I think we're being conned...

...And so far, to be honest, it's blandsville. Annnd ... We already have radio stations in this market that play each of those acts. Too much, if you ask me...

The whole article makes for quite an interesting read!
