Just watched Sleuth launch this morning at 5AM CDT.

Basically cut out of USN (Ultimate Shopping Network) and launched with station ID. First show: The A Team.

Sleuth...collecting a license fee from cable operators for programming that most stations wouldn't run even if it was free.

Sleuth on in Houston!

Saw that too (or rather, the VCR saw it and I caught up with it a few hours later when I shook off the sleep and emerged to greet the new year).

Did anyone catch the end of Trio? I'd thought it was going to be at 2 AM EST (you sure you're still on daylight time there, Andrews? :) - but it was apparently at 3 AM, instead, and by then the VCR had shut off. (As had I!)

Sleuth also shows Knight Rider - which I noticed was airing on TV Land this afternoon.

It is a good idea but very poor programming. If they really want to have mysteries and such what about charlie chan and sherlock holmes or even hardy boys/nancy drew?

My guess about the Sherlock Holmes movies is that NBC/Universal doesn't own the rights to them.

The Charlie Chan movies appear to be taboo; I remember that Fox Movie Channel had planned on showing them a few years back but got such backlash from various Asian-American organizations that they dropped the movies from the schedule at the last minute. (Being PC is going to be the death of us all yet.)

I don't think I personally could stomach seeing the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew series again, but it again comes down to who has the rights ...
______________

From what I have seen of the new schedule, most of the shows on Sleuth are on our local independent TV station here in Los Angeles area (KDOC-TV Anaheim/Los Angeles).

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that DirecTV isn't carrying it. They probably think Trio is still on that satellite transponder.
______________

Kyle, do you and I watch the same KDOC?

I just checked the Sleuth schedule for the next seven days at their website and I didn't find a single show that is on KDOC.

For those who care, this is KDOC's weekday schedule:
8:00am Little House on the Prairie
9:00am Rockford Files
10:00am Cagney & Lacey
11:00am Kojak
12:00n Perry Mason
1:00pm Matlock
2:00pm In the Heat of the Night
3:00pm Hawaii Five-O
4:00pm Mission: Impossible
5:00pm Becker (2 episodes)
6:00pm Magnum, P.I.
7:00pm Perry Mason
8:00pm Mystery Movie: Mon: Columbo (2-hour episodes), Tue: Twilight Zone (3 episodes), Wed: Ellery Queen, Thu: Banacek, Fri: Columbo (90-minute episodes)
9:30pm Paid Programming, including the legendary and late Dr. Gene Scott at 10:00, followed by infomercials and home shopping overnight, then religion in the morning. There is (obviously) no infomercial at 9:30 on Mondays, but KDOC makes up for it by running two of them at 9:00 on Wednesdays.
______________
