In order for a progressive or liberal talk show to be popular on radio, let's face it, it's going to need an entertaining as well as savvy host. Do you think that Slick Willy would do such a radio program?

William Jefferson Clinton would be about as good a radio talk show host as David Lee Roth.
Clinton turned down a TV talk show.
I'm sure he's busy enough with his other ventures (mostly public speaking engagements and philanthropy). Doubt he'd have the time.

Yeah, being a part-time speaker and full-time skirt-chaser doesn't leave much time for anything else.

Clinton would probably do better with a Howard Stern type program than with political talk.
Putting politics aside, here are some reasons why Bill Clinton would not make a good talk show host, despite his formidable communications savvy:
1. He's a politician and politicians have a need to be liked by as many as people as possible. Clinton paid a great deal of attention to polls as President, and has shown personality traits that indicate his desire to be well-liked is still strong. A good talk show host must be willing to be say things that are provocative and which will offend some. I disagreed with many of Bill Clinton's policies, but his charm is undeniable. He simply would not be able to say things on the radio that excited listeners. "I feel your pain" may get votes, but not long-term listeners.
2. He loves to travel. Even with ISDN, etc., Bill Clinton would not want to be chained to a studio three hours a day, five days a week, no matter where his show would originate. And even the most generous syndicator would not give him unlimited vacation time.
3. He makes a lot of money on the speaking circuit. I have no idea what he charges for an hour speech, but it's a lot of money. Even if he makes one-half of Rush's yearly salary + endorsements, Clinton is making plenty of cabbage.
In sum, he doesn't need the gig.

I agree that:
* He has far more lucrative and far-reaching opportunities available to him.
* He likely doesn't have the time or desire to host a radio show.
* He is a former politician.
But I strongly disagree with the posts above, I think he would be a terrific radio show host (if he ever decided to go into radio)! He's a very captivating speaker, and has an amazing knack of being able to boil very technical issues down to important bullet points that everyone can understand, and he can do it in a very down-home, aweshucks manner that keeps people interested in the topic. If he would ever decide to host a radio show - I would put my money on the show being very popular.
Sure, there are lots of people who would make interesting talk hosts - but not likely to do it. Only reason I wouldn't but my money on one of them is you can't guarantee they will stick to it! Might be popular, might even enjoy financial success, but don't see it happening over the long haul!
