Slick & Slight

I'm glad that KZON can influence KZZP, and without KMVA around to threaten KZZP at all, KZZP now has the freedom to leave as much pop rock out as they wish, but...... if 104.7 is going to start only using P!NK and Neon Trees now, then... where am I gonna get my Taylor Swift? :(

Ok, I'm not really as sad about it as I am pretending to be. I'm just using my online acting skills to point out an observation here.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed the slick & slight tweakage, but KZZP has changed up quite a bit rather recently. Not only have they shifted more rhythmic than they have been, but their recurrents have shifted more in that direction, too. I notice other things as well... but, I'm not going to "spill all their secrets & techniques". I will admit that they are sounding great, doing whatever it is they are trying to do, though (and I should stop acting like I don't know what they are up to...).

104.7 has always shifted with the trends (at least while they have been KISS). When Hip Hop took over, they then leaned more Urban. When Power use to do the Power Work Out at Noon, then Kiss used Greggy D's Uptempo Mixes at Lunch. When Power changed their Lunch hour to Diggin in the Crates, then Kiss also did the Kiss Cafe with DJ Pauly's Old School Mix. So now that Jamz is having a great book, of course they want a piece of that format.

I wasn't going to say anything, but looks like once again, the cat is OUT OF THE BAG!
They tried to be slick & slight with it, but everyone can see that (even though KISS has a wider regular music playlist,) KISS is trying to be like JAMZ, ftw! \o/

Just to keep things clear, they do still play Taylor Swift and tend to throw in some other pop rock hits (outside of P!NK & Neon Trees) occasionally, but not too often. No Sick Puppies or anything like that though (at least as of right now). They have their own sound, but I still think they are being somewhat slick & slight to some degree!

I really don't see them trying to be JAMZ. Their playlists are similar just as both of these are similar to many other stations across the country right now. I actually thought I was liking JAMZ better than KISS until I heard the mixshows on both stations last weekend. I actually liked KZZP's better, although they both pale in comparison to B96's.

Depends on what time you listen to each station's mixshow. KZZP does have some nicely flavored remixes of regular hit music from 9-11pm on Saturday nights, but KZON goes deeper with the exclusive non regular playlist music & remixes at ANY time during the mix. Therefore, overall, I say KZON's mixes are more intriguing. I don't count the Baka Boyz Allstar Hitmix on KZZP since that is syndicated. Also, I don't fully understand why KZZP has Dj Earth on before Dj Thrasher when Dj Earth "goes harder" than Dj Thrasher when it comes to remixes, choice of music, choice of promo remix service dj edits, and the entire theme of their mixshows. Club Kiss (after Baka Boyz are done)  starts off harder then mellows out... and even The Baka Boyz All Star Hit Mix sounds "deeper" than Dj Thrasher's musical & remix style sound.

I only say that KZZP is being slick & slight, or trying to sound a dirty bit like KZON because ever since KZON has been establishing their position on top of things ratings wise, KZZP has recently (seemingly and suddenly) been decreasing Taylor Swift and other non rhythmic radio hits quite a bit. I don't think they're focusing their undivided attention towards being 100% like KZON, though. Just a little.

I'm not complaining either way since personally I believe both stations are sounding good.

According to radiotime.com, Power 98.3 played "Love is Gone" by David Guetta at 6:43 PM. Have they ever played that before on Power?

Power 98.3 playing "love is gone"?; They used to last year (the year that I've been saying that was the best sounding year for Power 98.3 IMO), but that was when they had the Electro Hip-Hop & House show on Friday nights. As far as them playing it between 5 and 7pm on the weekday today (or during the 5 o clock Happy hour), that is a little "strange", although I'm sure it COULD've really happened. I don't know if it was a mash-up, the actual song, or what. They probably used it with or around another David Guetta hit.

Also, I should give more credit to KZZP mixes because I did say KZON plays more non regular playlist music in their mixshows, which was another reason I favored KZON mixes. Well, KZZP also plays non regular playlist music. It's just that KZON plays NEWER exclusive mixshow music. I've heard KZZP play Darude and ATC and even Eric Prydz, but nothing like Swedish House Mafia or Duck Sauce or even "add s.u.v." by Uffie. KZZP is alright with their mixes, but... I'll be more excited once I hear some Afrojack or Wynter Gordon or something of that nature in their mixes. It takes more than Steve Angello & Laidback Luke feat. Robin S - "show me love" to fully impress me in a mixshow. ;D KIIS in Los Angeles has finally decided to just "cross the line" and fully go EDM with some regular uptempo hits on Friday nights.

Lastly, I also favor KZON because of the various dj's with different styles of their own. For example, Dj Mikee Mike "is known for" using the Mike D Bass remixes of certain songs like "my love" by Justin Timberlake and "forever" by Chris brown...etc. Knick Knack "is known for" his club leaning / deeper dance sound, where you're more likely to hear some quick Swedish House Mafia and stuff thrown in, (with even some Britney Spears "circus" dance remix(es)...etc.). Ok, maybe they aren't really known for those things by most normal people, but the point is each dj has a certain unique style sound to throw in or deliver. I wont get into every single dj, but you get the point. They all have their different styles - whether it be more hip hop oriented, dance, club pop, classic material, NEW MUSIC/HITS, and whatever else is Buzzin'.

Lastly Part 2, As far as KKFR, I love the direction they've gone and the sound they're delivering now. More current urban lean as opposed to the Mike Jones "back then" era.

DJ Thrasher has "deeper" mixes on Channel 933, where he is originated. From 12am-3am. I'm surprised he doesn't play any house mixes on his mix on KISS.

I think DJ Aaron Taylor is the best DJ on KISS, he's the one that does the 5PM mix.

By the way, I no longer think KZZP is being slick & slight.

The Jim Bohannon show on KTAR, however... I don't know if it's just me, but it's beginning to slightly sound more & more like Coast to Coast AM each time I listen to it! Not too much, but.... I'd say you have to be pretty slick to produce a show that slightly resembles Coast to Coast AM as much as Jim Bohannon's does without too many people noticing!

I wonder... if KZON never existed or were never successful, would KZZP still lean as rhythmic as they are now, or would they be experimenting with / featuring more pop rock hits, somewhat like KMVA?
