Slight DX Today

Today from my location in Central Connecticut I was getting near Crystal Clear in Stereo reception from MIX 98.5 from Boston. I say near Crystal Clear because every so often there would be a blip from La Fiesta from Long Island, which I normally get on 98.5 in the car.

And WCRB Classical 995.5 from Boston was also nearly crystal clear. It wasn't as steady as MIX's signal. And it was switching from stereo to mono.

Years ago, when I went to school back there, 103.3 and 98.5 were the two most likely Boston FMs to come in. Particularly 98.5 for some reason. Sometimes, in certain places, Kiss 108 would overpower WEBE (depending on terrain). Some higher spots in places like Burlington, Canton, Granby and East Hartland can weakly pick up certain Boston FMs (e.g. 94.5, 98.5, 102.5, 103.3, 107.9) almost all the time. A little tropospheric enhancement bounces them right in to Farmington, Bristol, West Hartford, etc.

Of course, once you got past Tolland - the Boston stations weren't so rare anymore.

But, I never did get 99.5 from Lowell in that area....that didn't come in until you were in NE Conn. Pretty good catch for it to be in the clear!

what about 92.9, 100.7, and 104.1... and 107.3 ... i think they're the rockers in that area

Yeah. I'm in Southington, which is the next town over from Bristol.

Nope to all 4. On 92.9 I usually get the AAA formated station from Long Island. And I haven't gotten 107.3 since they moved their tower. 104.1 is impossible because there's a local 104.1 WURH "fm 104 one" (similar to 104.5 in Philly), and 100.7 would be a neat trick as well with a local on 100.5 FM.
