Slightly off topic: Channel 53's analog shutoff

So 53 decided to petition the FCC to go ahead and shut off this past Tuesday night, which was the original deadline. If you were watching cable you had no idea anything happened. But on the analog signal, they flipped out of the broadcast in the middle of a spot, and you saw a DVD player boot up and begin to play the program about how to install an analog-to-digital converter. I'm not sure if it's still running (it was the next day, in Spanish).

I would hope the 2,4 and 11 will have a little more sense of history when they make the switch and at least produce a little transition promo.

Sinclair's UHF facility in Rochester, NY (WUHF, ch 31) did the same on the 17th and is playing the same how-to video on the analog channel.

YouTube has a number of clips of stations making the transition, and the vast majority either
jumped right into the instructional DVD (which alternates between Spanish and English per FCC
instructions), or went straight to static. I would expect that more established legacy stations
like WPXI and KDKA that are part of the June 12 wave of shut-offs would do something a bit
more significant.
