Sliwa's national show ends 12/11; Batchelor offered

Curtis Sliwa is off the air already in NYC (though he may move to WNYM 970, poss. a morning drive gig?) and now it looks like his "streets to the suites" weeknight show is down to its last two weeks, according to this NY Daily News article (tip of cap: Boston Radio Watch)

http://www.nydailynews.com/entertai...leaves_wabc_john_batchelor_replaces_him_.html

It was said that the show will be offered to affiliates this week and next (so, ending 12/11) and then Citadel will offer John Batchelor to affiliates. WTKK would probably take (one other option may be delayed Mark Levin but
I'm guessing Batchelor) but we'll see. It's said for now Batchelor will do 7 days/wk but that will be reduced to
6 days/wk. Supposedly WABeatleC was getting huge ratings for Batchelor.

From Curtis' site; apparently he didn't say anything last week either on WABC or nationally (I think he
had a 9-10 local hour). Listeners who didn't see pieces in the local papers, etc., may have been caught unaware
Mon night when they tuned in to hear the Raspberry Beret but got Batchelor instead.

>>Where's Curtis! What happened?...Where are you. Turned on the radio last night, and Mr. B has your slot. Called the radio station today and was told you quit.

Huh? Couldn't come to terms with a contract...wanted a "prime time" slot but none available...
But as a comment on NYDN article said, weeknights isn't really prime time on radio

One post said that the show is no longer being syndicated after the next 2 weeks, and that listeners
can hear it via WTKK's stream

Maybe Batchelor has changed, but when I heard him, he didn't take callers. Just had his usual rotation of conservative guests. I don't see this Princeton grad whose wife is a minister doing RW-talk.

From what I recall, that hour was also syndicated to at least the Washington station. Hard to fathom, but WABC as we know it now consists of a daily lineup with no locality.

http://www.fybush.com/nerw.html says Sliwa is new morning guy at NYC's WNYM 970, the Apple, starting Jan 11. No idea if he would try to take that show national somehow...guessing WTKK does go for Batchelor. Sliwa's last night/national show is prob this Fri. He has told listeners to check his site for details on his radio situation

The best feature of his old show.

That's EXACTLY the reason why I think the WOR Network's "Joey Reynolds Show" stands head and shoulders above the overnight-hours competition.

I know, to each his own...but...

I KNOW there are people that LOVE Joey Reynolds...but personally, It sounds like an egocentric guy gabbing all night with a bunch of "in" jokes. I dont think JR brings the audience into the room at all...unless they like listeneing to him gab and tell stories.

I KNOW there are people that loved Art Bell as well.....and I thought he was boring (strange voice) and weird...with weird topics that didn't interest me.

Sliwa did announce to his listeners Thu night that Fri night, tonight, is his last nationally syndie show but he
starts in Jan. on WNYM in NY area. He also mentioned the Citadel bankruptcy filing

With glee, perhaps?

Well, he seemed to suggest that he "saw it coming and wanted to get out..." He said something about contracts being nullified by a bankruptcy filing--I'm guessing Citadel didn't want to offer him as big a salary
as they move through Ch 11, etc., but what kind of salary will he get at Salem's WNYM--smaller outfit
(though maybe not quite in debt!) and no more national syndication (unless Salem decides to offer him
nationwide though they already have Bill Bennett for mornings)

If Entercom went bankrupt, Howie at the "zombie radio" station would be gleeful...

Why? Do you understand that the only reason Carr makes the kind of money he does is because TWO viable talk stations exist in Boston?

Even if you don't, Carr certainly does.

2.5 business stations if you count WBZ

Well, on air Howie makes no bones (maybe it is just an act though?) about wanting to get out of the
zombie radio station (whether or not TKK would hire him who knows). But I'm just commenting on the
way Howie is...when Entercom went below the $1 mark he made comments about it, etc. And yes
I know that's why Howie feels that way

Howie has been saying he wants to get out of Bay state for the past 20 years.
