Sloppy board work on CBS-FM?

OK, I admit I am rather new to the concept of "streaming"...

Last night, dealing with a bout of insomnia, I dialed up the "stream" for CBS-FM in NYC.....a long time favorite since I used to be in NYC regularly years ago.

Music was great, jocks were competent......but, is what goes out over the air and what is streamed the same?

I heard more "dead air", spots that ran half-way before switching to something else, and all sorts of other things that I wouldn't expect to hear on a station on the number one market in the country!

Do they sound that sloppy over the air, or was it just the "stream"?

Please set me straight here!

I suspect it's only on the stream. It sounds as if programming and engineering need to monitor their spot insertion system and clean up the problem.

It happens with many stations. They don't have the stream & the live over the air feed coordinated properly.
I asked an engineer at one major market station how it works and he didn't even understand it.

Also, some stations do not air their local commercial spots. For my part I have sent away to some sponsors when I needed something, if it was out of the marketing area, just because they were good enough to sponsor the stream; and I have also recommended the places to people I know who live in those markets.

There are two different providers for spots during ad breaks on CBS Radio stations. First, you've got whatever is going over the feed via StreamTheWorld/CBS. Then, during those breaks, you might have one or two ads inserted by TargetSpot (sponsors include Macy's, Netflix, NBC, etc.). So I wouldn't blame you for being confused during stopsets on CBS station streams. However, if you are able to listen to a lower-quality CBS station stream through Winamp, I believe you are able to bypass the TargetSpot streams, since they are only serviced through the CBS Beta player.
