Slow news day at WMTW

Apparently nothing else going on was important enough to be newsworthy today. Channel 8 felt the need to do a story on how Jon Camp had a baby. Who cares? Does the Press Herald publish stories about one of their writers having a baby? I don't think so. Why? People DON'T CARE. Oh well, chances are nobody was watching anyway.

WMTW, where the anchors come first.

Ohh, I know about WMTW. I think they're like the lowest rated news station in the market. Though I don't live in Maine, I do remember watching WMTW in February of 1998. They did a news story on some low-key event for little kids where they had storytime, and foods (such as junk food, like cookies, brownies, and cake). I remember they were interviewing kids what part they liked best. I think they asked if they liked the stories or the cake the best. These kids were like 4 and 5. What do you think they're gonna say?

That's right, CAKE!!!

But I also remember watching Jeopardy! that night. It was the year that they finally got rid of their original theme music. It was a Saturday, where they had reruns from the previous season. And I think WMTW is too low-key to scrunch the closing credits (so this was 10 years ago, I don't know if they do now), and so I got to hear that old theme music for the first time in ages, and I remember turning it up real loud.

WCSH 6 in the past has done stories on an anchor having a baby.Portland is a big enough market and there are plenty of reporters at all the stations that "LOCAL" news should be a lot better.WCSH does really well reporting Bangor area news.I just wish they would report as much Portland news.WGME 13 should cut in half the times they use the word "BREAKING".I don't watch any of them regularly because all I'm interested in is the "LOCAL" news, which is a small part of the newscast.I have no intrest in sports and how many times can you listen to inaccurate weather forecast. How about that little old lady's voice WGME 13 runs in their news promo thanking WGME for their accurate weather forecast.Do most viewers think that TV weather forecast are accurate?

Local TV is so damn predictable.

If it snowing, send your crew out on the roads to tell people, "Don't travel on the roads!"
(OK, what the hell are YOU doing out there)

The dumb shot of some moron reporter bending down to show us this unknown substance that has fallen from the sky.
(Oh my god, what is it???????)

Team Coverage It's New England, in the winter it SNOWS!!!!

If a storm is on the way, ---give the viewers a list of things to do in case of a storm.

Same applies when a heatwave hits. It's New England, in July it get HOT!!!

Why do weather reporters "tease" the upcoming forecast?
It's 2008...viewers can and do get the forecast on line or the Weather Channel.

And stop asking us questions like, "Will it snow this weekend?" Don't ask me, YOUR the so called expert!

All kidding aside, it's annoying and insulting.

Don't feel bad. WFSB-TV/DT (CBS) channel 3/D 33 of Hartford is famous for going overboard for even one flake. They even run an ad currently with one of their forecasters, standing on a chair, looking into a camera near the ceiling with the other forecasters behind him, trying to justify the hype for a one inch snowstorm. I can't say what I think about the star of this ad because I'd get myself in trouble. Safe to say that if he comes on, my remote gets used. Enough said! :(

Always wondered if the TV research departments get their information ONLY from those with an IQ under 20?

Here's another one. The 11 o'clock reporter standing out in front of a building reporting LIVE on some story that happened hours/days ago. You're "just barely" seeing is an empty building because:

1. The story is old
2. It's 11 o'clock and it's dark

And how bout those dumb ass slogans----like, "We're Working for You"

Your not working for ME, unless you plan on coming over to my house and shovel the driveway!!!
You know, that white stuff you've been talking about all day!!!

Ah crap, I'm sounding like Andy Rooney.

Oh yeah, I just LOVE the live shot in front of the courthouse or in front of some other building that's all locked up at 11 pm or 6 am. Why are you even there? Who are you talking to, the janitor? It makes the reporter look so silly.

The other one is doing a live shot "live from the newsroom!" Why do we care that you're in the newsroom, where we see someone in the background making love to a sub sandwich!! What ever happened to bringing the reporter out onto the set if he/she has some big news to report?

And yes, the "teaser" questions are sooooo hackey. Especially when they ask a question (i.e. "Is snow on the way?") for which the answer ends up being NO.

Personally....I think the teasers have gotten WAY OUT OF CONTROL!

As good as the WGME (Channel 13) staff is...there's far too much teasing about what's coming up in the next half hour (or at 11pm).

Either tell the complete story or just segue to the next one! Expecting loyal viewers to "just hang on another 30 minutes" is foolish! :-[
