It's like pulling teeth to get a discussion here. I generally post on the places I lived which is Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay and Richmond. Generally there is constant activity on the first two. I know Richmonders used to brag that the pace is slower in Richmond , but it really isn't. Richmond has as many radio outlets as Pittsburgh , but the people who live there have opinions. WRVQ was a great station and went CHR on FM before anybody in Pittsburgh and had more sustaining power than anyone there. WTVR , I presume, still has Bill Bevins who is the type of truly place specific person that Pittsburgh used to have, but doesn't anymore.

Wake up

If I said that Eric Cantor needs to stand up to Rush and take control of the party, would that start a discussion that the party lacks leadership at this time? If he hadn't allowed a radio entertainer to correct him about the "Listening Tour", he would be on his way to solid leadership. Should Rush have this kind of control? Is he still the premier show on WRVA?

Bevins is still there, Q94 is pretty much of a waste singal on what was a good CHR now. And the market is slow very very slow. The battle between 1065 the Beat and iPower 92 continue, with the flip flopping every book, power sounding better though.

Mix 1037 sounds good musically / Liberty 989 is lame. And nothing is happening on the country side, K95 leads over rimshot but trying to be a Richmond station 931 the Wolf. 1021 the X leads in rock over the dead Y101, which will be moving 100.9 and hopefully flips formats...maybe CHR or CHR/RHY, I Hope.

Richmond radio is very slow and no major flips or action is happening.

OK

1) What about the AM move-in to BonAire

2) What about WBBT?

3) Is WZEZ moving to jazz with Philly Phil?

4) Commercial classical on 107.9?

5) 97.3-----------does it compare to Pacifica?

6) Country at 93.5

6) 1450? What is it now

7) Are Paige Wilson and Steve Leonard still on the air?

1) The CP was just sold for $10K. It has a VERY limited signal, so I'd put its chances in making a dent outside Midlothian as slim.

2) 'BBT still hangs around as an oldies station. Richmond history dictates that, eventually, oldies stations come to a demise, but we will see what plans Mainline has for them.

3) WZEZ is in limbo, which is all I can say about it.

4) The 107.9 signal is out of Williamsburg.

5) No answer. Sorry.

6A) 93.5 is Bobcat Country out of Blackstone. It's never booked in Arbs in Richmond; a "community/area" station for that part of South Central Virginia.

6B) WCLM is still a mix of music presentations and personalities (and hopefully Kirby will be back on the air soon!)

7) I don't know.

Personally? I think Richmond is a slow, slow market and has been lame for years. We haven't had a good ol' fashioned "format battle" in ages (sorry, but The X versus Y doesn't cut it when their combined 12+ rating isn't even a 5 share!) and let's not get started talking about the continued axing of local personality. Calling Elvis Duran?

Ms. Music, perhaps there would be more chatter on both the Richmond and the Hampton Roads markets if Radio-Info created a combined board for those 2 markets. Your Pittsburgh (Go Steelers!) and Tampa point is well taken, but they have individual boards. Surely, if there is a NE PA, and a Lehigh Valley/Reading and a Central PA board and of course a Philadelphia board, there is precedent for one board dedicated to both markets. After all, they are the largest markets in the state. Just a thought.

I agree with you totally. Maybe a Richmond-Hampton Roads section would work since afterall Virginia is a big state and besides who in Virginia Beach or Richmond really cares about Winchester? Harrisonburg? Hell..even Roanoke?

Then again there are some bigger markets for some reason who don't have their own board. Right off the bat Indianapolis comes to mind.

The 1079 singal for West Point/Williamsburg is a big waste. It broadcasts to trees and farms and can not be heard in Henrico County, Richmond is out of the question.... and it fades out once you hit Newport News as well. It really needs to be country station. It broadcasts to farms.

93.5 Bobcat Country can also not touch Richmond....not even really Chesterfield, 935 is too far south. 93.1 The Wolf also from the south does much better in Richmond, but static in areas and why listen to a weak 931 when a strong 95.3 (K95) is there.

And Q94 is now free XM/Sirus Radio, along with some other Richmond stations.

Oldies remains on 100.3/107.3....with VCU Basketball games? HUH? I think Mainline can do CHR there and smoke Q94 now. Or Cox and do CHR when the 101.1 moves to 100.9.
