SM95 returns online

A friend of mine has been working for the past two months to resurrect SM95, the format WSM-FM used between 1976-1983. He is using much of the station's previous playlist as well as incorporating some newer material to bring the format current. Here is the link to the new SM95:

The -DB is a suffix added to stations that broadcast on the internet who choose to use call signs as an identifier. These calls are not FCC based, but put together by a group called the National Association of digital Broadcasters http://www.thenadb.org/

A webcaster chooses these type of call letters and pays an annual fee for them. One may choose these to be found on the web or smartphone more easily.

As far as SM-95 is concerned, I preferred the live365 version of the stream. That stream chose to play more deep cuts than the current version, and they also stayed true to the music played during SM-95's run (1976-84). The current version of the station sounds all right, but they tend to play songs on the more familiar side of soft AC. At the same time, I do hear some "oh-wow" tracks, and the 128 audio sounds very good. I just enjoyed the "West Coast Adult Oriented Rock" format better.

I listened via the VLC media player and found it to be better than the other options..I remember SM 95..but don't recall there being dead air between the music..was it like that back then ?? I the idea is to just play that type format without liners or jocks..seems like software would be used to eliminate the dead air between tracks..

I am one of the co-owners of the new SM95, http://www.sm95online.com/. SM95 was my favorite radio station during my childhood and early teen years of the late '70s and early '80s. I was crushed in 1983 when I first learned that FM 95.5 in Nashville had changed formats and was no longer SM95. I enjoyed the Live365 station which broadcast from 2001 - 2008, and I was saddened when that station was pulled. Nick Archer was one of the announcers on the original SM95 FM station, and he also managed the Live365 station. Nick is the other co-owner of the new station. With Nick's help and the feedback of listeners like those who have previously posted here, the new station will get better.

The new version of SM95 is still under construction. Like any new organization, we are going through a trial and error process as we try to find our way and get our feet on solid ground. Thus far, our focus has solely been on uploading the over 3,000 tracks from the Live365 station's library. The upload of over 3,000 music files is easier to discuss than to actually do. We are slowly but surely getting those thousands of tracks uploaded. Some tracks from the Live365's station's library were either unavailable or were in a format not compatible with the new station. Unfortunately, the above referenced conditions especially applied to those songs and artists who appeared exclusively on the FM and Live365 versions of SM95. Yes, I know that those songs and artists really made SM95 a unique and special station. Please know that every single artist and every single song on the Live365 station will be on the new station.

I apologize for the long gaps in between tracks. I have just attempted to do some tweaking in an effort to shorten the gaps. Hopefully, the "dead air" problem will be corrected soon.

The new SM95 is still a work in progress. While the Live365 station was great, Live365 had very strict storage limits. Under the new arrangement, SM95 will have much greater storage space and will be able to play far more songs and feature far more artists. Also, the new station will stream on many different platforms and not just over Live365. I do not deny or dispute the previous comments. Please know that the station will not always sound as it does right now. We will change. We will complete the upload of all the original music files. If you are not satisfied with how the station sounds thus far, please do not give up on the new SM95 just yet. Far from giving up on us, I hope you will get involved. I do not know it all and am humble enough to admit it. Please do not hesitate to share your comments, suggestions, or even your castigations at the SM95 email: [email protected]. Thank You for taking the time to check out the new station and for sharing your thoughts.
