"Smackdown" Goes To SyFy!

Could this be considered the final "body slam" in the coffin for My Network?

NOT SUPRISED BY THE MOVE! ;D

Even though not having WWE on ota tv on a regular basis may seem like a decline, at the same time it shows who will more than likely will help

launch the WWE 24/7 channel in 2011.

I agree that this is the end for My Network TV for it's purpose, but I don't see it dissolved yet.

I doubt the My Net stations are excited to become independent on primetime ota against the major network affiliates.

The way I see it, it will keep going until Murdoch says enough is enough.

My Network TV probably still makes good money because they run syndicated shows and reruns of sister station's news broadcasts! Mornings and weekends are usually saturated with infomercials, which equals into money no matter how you put it.

Now that I think about it, "Smackdown" didn't necessarily fit in with My's target demo, did it?

No but it makes me wonder if this maybe the final nail for SyFy as a Science Fiction Network. If they keep adding non-sci-fi programming, they might as well change the name again but this time from SyFy to USA-2 Network. Hey, there is a ESPN-2, Why not a USA-2?

They could've taken over My Net in total and have it run as an all-rassling network. Otherwise, they should've started their own channel a decade ago and not mess with that XFL business, which set them back a bit, I guess. But then, I'm not Vince McMahon.

Speaking of My Net, here are my ideas on what they should do next:

- OTA all-sports channel

- OTA music and lifestyle channel, maybe in alliance with TheCoolTV

- Become a main network for ThisTV

- Another Spanish-language network. Remember that My Net has stations in big markets that were on the formerly analog VHF channels, like WWOR and KCOP. Here's a chance for FOX to get into the Spanish-language market, if they choose to.

The entity that owns USA Network might take umbrage to that...

Seeing as how NBC Universal owns both USA Network and Syfy, I don't think any umbrage would be taken.

That's right - coffee hasn't yet kicked in this AM... :p

So it appears that the WWE franchise's broadcast identity, more or less, remains "in the family". Hey, wonder if they'll bring back NBC's "Saturday Night's Main Event"?

I thought MyNet might be goning somewhere when they came out with a bunch of new originals, and now its a network of reruns, an independent can do that!

A good move in that

1) Some of the "major" My Network affilliates also run local major league baseball and other sports broadcasts on friday nights, thus pre empting "Smackdown. SyFy does not. Guaranteed 52 week uninterrupted run.

2) DirecTV does not carry My Network. They do carry SyFy.

By some estimates, the move will expose "Smackdown" to upwards of 4 to 5 million more potential viewers.

NXT will eventually head off to WWE.com as was the case with "Sunday Night Heat."

Network or syndication service.. whatever you call it, My Network TV has had a very good year.
Ratings are up 22% over last year and programming costs are down. That's pretty remarkable.

Except that both USA and SyFy are owned by NBC Universal (soon Comcast).

There is a USA-2. It's called Sleuth.
