Smackdown is heading to My Network TV

I don't have the actual links but if you go to:

My Network TV's website, en.wikipedia.org's My Network TV section, gerweck.net, and WWE.com, I'm sure there will be plenty of stuff about it.

This is a great move on WWE's part. It wil be on a network that is willing to sell the WWE THE RIGHT WAY.

MAYBE THEY WILL PUT IT UP AGAINST MONDAY NIGHT RAW ;D

I personally thought it might as well be on My Network TV. It could air it on Friday nights like the CW used to, since it currently airs movies anyway. For many Iowans, Smackdown will move to a new station:

PRE-CW (2005-06):
Cedar Rapids-Waterloo - KWWF (now RTN)
Des Moines-Ames - WHO-TV (secondary; NBC primary)
Kirksville-Ottumwa - KYOU (secondary; Fox primary)
Omaha-Council Bluffs - WOWT-DT (now independent)
Quad Cities - WBQD-LP (now MyNet)
Rchstr-M.C. - KIMT (CBS; aired Smackdown at 12:35am and replaced UPN with MyNet)
Sioux City - either KTIV (NBC) or KMEG (CBS)

CW YEARS (2006-08):
Cedar Rapids-Waterloo - KWKB (now both CW and MyNet; also aired Smackdown and some other UPN shows as a "WB 20")
Des Moines-Ames - KCWI-TV (previously WB)
Kirksville-Ottumwa - CW Plus?
Omaha-Council Bluffs - KXVO (previously WB)
Quad Cities - KGCW-TV (previously WB; Smackdown also aired on sister station Fox 18)
Rchstr-M.C. - CW Plus (KTTC-DT)
Sioux City - CW Plus (KTIV-DT)

COMING FALL 2008:
Cedar Rapids-Waterloo - KWKB (2 hr delay, unless Smackdown airs on Saturday)
Des Moines-Ames - KDMI-DT (sister station of KCWI-TV)
Kirksville-Ottumwa - No known MyNet station in market
Omaha-Council Bluffs - KPTM-DT (created when MyNet came along)
Quad Cities - WBQD-LP (now also on WQAD-DT)
Rochstr-M.C. - probably at 12:35am on KIMT again (unless a new station is created)
Sioux City - KPTH-DT (created when MyNet came along)

This means that only two stations in Iowa will be welcoming back the show!

Why in the blue hell would they do something so monumentally dumb? This is the second time you've made such a suggestion.

WWE won't put it on Monday nights because...

1. WWE owns the show. They won't cannabalize their own product.
2. 'Smackdown" tapes on the Tuesday prior to airing.
3. It woud be really, really stupid.

This is going to be interesting.
This one move single handedly puts MNTV on the map, as it automatically assures them a set number of viewers, and serves as the entry point to promote the rest of their linup, which is shaping up to entirely new.

The crazy thing is that MNTV might have more of a fighting chance with wrestling than The CW has without it.

The CBS/Warner net is going all-in with its gameplan of attracting women 18-34--a segment of profitable, younger viewers who are already leaving broadcast TV behind for cable shows and the internet. Meanwhile, MyNet is getting a proven show in Smackdown (with fewer advertiser-friendly viewers) , but one that they can probably build upon with shows targeting men.

Does MY want to become the broadcast version of Spike TV? Please forgive my ignorance, becuase I don't presently watch MY at all. I wonder how different things would be today if the network started this way instead of going the novela route in 2006?

It might not be a bad strategy considering The CW is slanted toward women. But cancelling their MMA program (IFL Battleground) seems to be a mistake.
