Small DX Radio

Looking for some ideas for a great FM radio for my wife's workplace. The footprint has to be 4.5" x 4.5" or less & run from AC power. Goal is to pick up a Class A at 20 miles. Current radio is a Sony Dream Machine Cube...poor selectivity & a tendency to overload, even though the larger Dream Machines are good. Any ideas?

Would a Grundig G8 do? I find it has great selectivity on FM.

That was exactly what I was going to suggest! Can't think of many other radios in that size range that can do better - the Tecsun PL-310. But you'd have to buy that one from China via ebay.

What amount of space does it take on the desk?

The radio is 5 1/4 " long and 3 1/4" high. If the footprint is a square with each side 4.5" then the G8 should be to fit in diagonally though it may look a little bit tacky unless that isn't a problem.

One thing I failed to mention...where the radio sits is hard to access. The radio needs to be able to power up when plugged in as the method of turning it off & on will be by plugging/unplugging the power cord (an area where the Dream Cube shines with it's mechanical power switch). Does the Grundig have that capability? And is the FM sensitivity at least equal to the Super Radio II? Sounds like the reports of great selectivity are a plus, but receiving a Class A at 20 miles inside of an office will take good sensitivity as well.

The G8 will not automatically power up when plugged in. I'm not aware of any small digital receivers that will.

Never played with a SRII, but FM sensitivity in the G8 is excellent. The only radios I've heard of being better in that size category are the follow-ups to the G8- the Tecsun PL-310 and PL-380 (the G8 is actually a rebadged Tecsun PL-300WT).
