SW Iowa Radio
While I may not know as much as you do about radio, I do know that there were way too many country stations and REALLY conservative talk stations in SW Iowa when I lived there. It was like pulling teeth to find a modern rock & roll, hip-hop, or talk station that doesn't have some right-wing nut job on the air at least at some point during the day. I really wish SW Iowa stations would embrace a more modern manner of programming. Even if you did find a decent non-country, non-hyper conservative station, you would lose the station each time you went down south Western Hills (even within 30 miles of CB/Omaha at times). SW Iowa stations could cover HS sports, music concerts, and even academic bowl competitions, hospital admissions & discharges, & funerals fairly well, but that was about it.When I was a kid, KXKT the Cat -- Meow, Meow, Meow -- was about as good as it ever got for SW Iowa radio, and I don't think it was even in Iowa. Then, the station sadly went to country. The River wasn't bad, and there was another decent station on the rumbling low end of the FM dial out of St. Joseph, MO, but neither were the Cat. Occasionally, a little salvation could come from a strong BUZZ signal out of Kansas City, but those occurrences were few and far between.
