Small Market Salaries

I heard that the following figures are pretty much standard for small market salaries (~200-275 i.e. Ithaca NY, Waterbury VT, Manchester NH).

Mornings: 35k
Middays:25k
PM Drive: 30k
Nights: 20k w/prod(25k)

Does anyone know if these are accurate?

College radio
-$1k to take a class to stay active with radio Danbury CT
(of course currently my tuition a lot more being a full time student in VT)

I find it ironic you chose the board for the largest market to ask this.

Why not post on another board? Or ask the Ithaca folks what NYC gets these days.

I work in a market within the range about which you inquired.

It's been my experience that, in this & similar size markets, those
salaries are pretty much accurate.

Cost-of-living in my market is remarkably low, so 30K +/- actually is
a pretty fair base salary. Most jocks in this size market do double-duty
(as Production Director, Program Director, Operations Manager, etc.)
for which they get a salary bump, adding a few K onto that base.

There also are opportunities to grab a few extra $$$ by doing
appearances, mobile DJ gigs, voiceovers for local TV, etc.
I haven't done the mobile DJ thing in years, but I typically
add another couple K with voiceovers and a few appearances.

Plus, I was lucky enough to marry a chick with a "real day job,"
who makes more than enough for me to still indulge my "paying
hobby" of radio.

So my situation is that I make right around the average of 30K
as my base, but usually end the year closer to (if not at) 40K.
Still low compared to major markets, but well above the local
median per capita income, with a combined income (thanks to
the wife) that's also well above the local median household
income.

Sorry to say, but you are correct, most radio people make an average of 20-25k. The larger markets like NY is where the bigger salaries are, with many radio personalities making 70-100k and more depending on syndication, appearances, etc. In some smaller markets it is not uncommon for the personalities to have their radio job and to have another job to subsidize their income.

Thanks to Everyone who has posted on this topic!

To those who found this post to be a bit trite:
Please understand that I didn't intend to insult any major market jocks by asking this question. I just figured that with the number of folks in NYC there would be someone with enough experience in this field to comment/help me out.

Yes, they are pretty much right on for the small Palm Springs, Ca. market of just a tad over 300,000. A combo PD morning jock around 35kw, and the ballance of the staff between 20 and 25k.
