Smart Move Greater Media!

I wonder if GM had a notion that Y100 was going to go away and took advantage of that by hiring some of Y100's personalities like Preston and Steve, and Matt Cord. You figure the former Y100 listeners had to go somewhere right? If their old morning show and afternoon show moved to a new station, then it only make sense that the listeners would follow. Smart move GM.

Greater Media hired Preston & Steve in order to get an established morning show and get a foothold when Howard says goodbye later this year. There were always inklings that Radio-One would get rid of Y100, however in the non-compete lawsuit it was claimed that the station flipped because of the departure of Preston & Steve.

The Y100 audience wasn't large compared to the other rock stations in town, however with WMMR playing second fiddle to WYSP, it did make sense for MMR to capitalize on the demise of its other competitor as well as differentiate itself a bit more from sister WMGK.<P ID="signature">______________

Where are you getting your info from? Y100 tied or beat wmmr in the ratings almost every trend. Both hovered between 2.5 and 3.5, but Y100 was usually on top of wmmr.

12+, yes.

Don't get me wrong. I want an Alternative station in Philly if personal preferences were taken into account. However, the state of the market based on who owns stations right now doesn't seem to warrant anybody to flip.

You can go right ahead and keep wanting. if you need an alternative fix, buzz over to y100rocks.com, the home of those left-over losers who still have no real radio gig to speak of. I am sure if you put your sweater on and click your burkenstocks together, and listen to y100rocks.com, you could relive the 90's all over again. alt-rock is dying, all of the alt-rock stations are flipping because people are realizing that the 1990's are passed nobody with any money to spend is listening to alt-rock.

That may be true (maybe) for now, but if you can wait about 10 years.....

You obviously don't know anything about Modern Rock/Alternative music...yes, there is amazing alt music from the 90's but there is SO much music NOW that NO ONE is playing on the radio! Alt/Mod Rock is so NOT dying...it is thriving! Alt/Mod Rock is NOT about the past, it's about what's happening now as well as paying tribute to the great alt music from the past (and not JUST the 90's). Calling the people ay y100rocks.com "losers" is just wrong - they are all talented, great people who love music and believe in what they're doing...playing great music for people who KNOW and love it! Your attempt at alt-rock stereotype humor, "I am sure if you put your sweater on and click your burkenstocks together..." is so not funny and way off base. (Plus, you spelled Birkenstocks wrong.)

Please, name me the Alt/Mod Rock stations on the air in major markets. It is a dying FORMAT. And ya know alot of the music that comes out now ain't that spectacular. Don't get me wrong I have an entire preset filled with different rock stations on XM, but its just not a commercially viable format at the moment. I agree with the post below wait ten years. Everything is cyclical. I bet we'll see MMR go a little more modern with their sound (of course we've all been saying that and it's yet to happen.) BUT a full time alt rocker in Philly is a long ways off.

Don't get your panties in a bunch over rubberbrain. It's not worth it. It's a hater and an ageist to boot. It's so stuck on the 'sweater' thing it's ridiculous. Look at some of it's other posts on this topic and you'll understand what a wind bag it is. I never read more hate-filled posts anywhere.

You're pretty arrogant. You agree with the post below? Then why post above it? K-thanks drivethru

Right, so instead of hating and defending fad-rock. Why not just go ahead and so like the previous post suggests. Name some alt-rock stations in major radio markets, and WHFS on Live 105 doesn't count because live 105.7 is one of those FM "hot talkers" and has whfs programming on weekends. So I challenge anyone who wants to defend the slippage of alt-rock's popularity to name some alt-rock stations in major markets.

Re: you can't name any alt-rock stations can you?

> Name some alt-rock stations in major radio markets

KROQ, Q101, Live 105 (in San Fran.), 102.1 The Edge, 94.5 The Buzz, DC101, WBCN, WFNX, 99X, 105.3 The Buzz, 107.7 The End, 103.9 The Edge, 101.5 The Zone, Drive 105, 91X, FM94.9, WLIR, 105.7 The Point, 97X, KTCL, 105.9 The X, KNRK, 92.3 Extreme Radio, KWOD, New Rock 97.3, X103.9, 96.5 The Buzz.

I could go on, but those are all the top 30 markets.
