Smart phones for audio recording?

Anyone using external mics with a smartphone to record/edit news or audio actualities? Remote breaks, listener audio etc.?

Anything besides an iPhone?

As you surmise there's more recording apps for the iPhone than other smartphones.

If the concern is cost/2 yr. contract with AT&T - think about purchasing an older-generation iPhone. I acquired a first-gen iPhone to run on T-Mobile. It's running 3.0.1 firmware and I built a cable to attach a high-impedance XLR mic & a set of headphones. For recording I use Poddio (allows editing as well as recording). Works great.
