.......and the promos you get the next morning tell you to turn Smerconish off and go to KYW if you want news and traffic. Nice of 1210 to remind listeners that they aren't served by their talk station.
This is one reason why we miss the old WCAU-AM because the station gave us news/talk/and sports, all on one station, not like it is now with WIP, KYW and 1210 AM. I hear the promos on 1210 during Phillies games saying if you want to talk about tonight's game, tune to WIP.
Speaking as someone who grew up with the later days of full-service WIP, with news updates around the clock, sports, etc., etc., etc., I have no problem with--even prefer to some degree--not hearing the same news and sports headlines I can find anytime I want elsewhere interrupting the reason I tuned in to the station in the first place. I'd rather have an hour of a talk show than the news break.
Sure, a generation ago it made sense because the outlets weren't co-owned and information outlets weren't as readily available as they are now. But times change, and changing with them makes sense.
As for Smirconish in particular, agreed that he is more focused on himself than ever, and that doesn't draw me in (if it does draw in others, great for him). When he does talk issues, I tend to agree with his views more often than not, and most importanly to this listener, he usually treats those who disagree with more respect than most of the other hosts.
As for Dom, I feel as another poster did that he seems to have moved to the hard right, at least when he isn't saying "Joey Vento" in every other sentence.
