Smerconish Unlistenable

What happened here? It used to be a decent program to listen to.
Remember that sound byte Howard Stern used to use when they asked people who hate him how much they listen to him and the number of people who couldnt stand him listened to him more than people who liked him.

That may work for Stern...or at least that spin worked.

It is not working for Smerconish.

That is my sense, my friends experience, and my personal feeling, but are there numbers that back that up?

To me, Smerconish is unlistenable now. People started listening to him for a certain reason. That reason does not exist anymore.

People just shut him off, listen to Bill Bennett, switched to sportstalk, or just went somewhere else.
 
Is it possible he's phoning it in on the radio in anticipation of a lucrative deal with MSNBC, on which he appears often? Some have said he thrives on such exposure...

That makes sense...but why would he want to board a sinking ship like msnbc?
CNN or Fox would be more viable choices.
Too bad he just cant come clean.
Any insiders have anything?

can you please 'splain to me why you think MSNBC is a sinking ship?

I was under the impression that their ratings were steadily rising.
 
Yes. "Countdown" usually comes in second in the news channel race at 8 PM, but is number one in that hour in some money demos.

Also, Rachel Maddow's new show - which just turned a month old, mind you - has been beating the great Larry King on most nights!

Primetime is fine. It's their daytime that's low-rated and could use some work.

I think it's a good decision for MSNBC to recently drop the "lockumentaries" and replace them with reruns of previous programming.

Just because they're getting beat doesn't mean they're a sinking ship. They might be in last place, but 3rd out of 3 and rising does not make MSNBC unviable.
 
The problem with MSNBC was, for the longest time, they had no ID since the days of John Gibson, Patti Anne Brown and Laurie Dhue (yanno, back when they were WORTH watching?). Since they became "CNN Light" they are making noise. CNN is becoming old and tiresome. So, the "sheeple" who are now bored with Larry King and Lou Dobbs (both now mere parodies of themselves) are going for Keith Over-the top-mann, Chris "Not MY Brother" Matthews and Rachel Mudhole. Smerconish is on that over extremist David Gregory's nightly show as "The Token Republican". (Trust me, I've seen the White House pressers and Gregory made Helen Thomas seem like Rush)

So why not let us all in on this mysterious "reason"? Boxers in a bunch because he doesn't join the other right-wing moonbats in haranguing about Bill Ayers and the Reverend Wright? Oh, and one other thing...the word unlistenable is becoming the most over-used word on radio message boards these days, and partly for that reason, it has become meaningless. You don't like Smerconish? Just say you don't like him. Whether you or I like him or not, he's clearly established a fan base and a following in the Philly market. I can't stand Hannity, but you won't find me saying he's unlistenable, because he's obviously very listenable to millions of people every weekday.

Hannity is on a mission. Perhaps that is why you don't like him.
Smerconish' mission is unclear....but there is one.
Maybe that's why you ran to his defense.
That's OK...there's room for your opinion too....on NPR

I have no problem with anyone being on a "mission"--most of us are, in one way or another. I do have a problem with someone who, as he did, makes an alleged "journalist" with a well-documented background of anti-semitism, the source of information for a one-hour, one-sided hatchet job on Barack Obama on Fox Noise this past Sunday night. And don't think this is just my thing--he's being called out for it, right and left, all over America.

Aside from that he's a drone on radio--preachy, no humor, spews a series of tired talking points that he never develops, and the constant self-promotion just never ends. I sometimes believe that if same-sex marriage were legal in New York, Sean would take advantage of the situation to marry himself.
 
Not only is Smerconish getting worse, his producer Greg is horrible, who says nothing important and all he does is kiss Smerconishs butt. TC isnt quite as bad, at least she comes up with some intelligent statements once in a while. Greg should have been told to keep his mouth shut long ago, because he adds nothing at all to the show.
 
Smerconish is 5th in morning drive right behind kYW, B101, WOGL and WMMR beating WIP and WMGK. and has cosistently been the highest rated show on that station. He also MAKES A TON OF MONEY for WPHT. I am not someone who listens everyday- because I am not that into politics, but when I do tune in he seems to be the only one on that station that goes into other topics, and the fact that he has other voices on his show to me shows that he is trying to be different from other talk shows of that genre. I'm not sure what morning shows you listen too, but producers and sidekicks are there to back up the hosts point or kiss his butt... IE Robin Quivers, Ed Mcmahon, Paul Schaffer....it's not science- it's humor
