SMERLAS SCALPING SHENANIGANS

... from today's Boston Globe:

http://www.boston.com/business/globe/articles/2006/12/03/patriots_play_tough/

Ordway is mentioned... Freddy lost his season tickets because of basically scalping tickets for his "tailgate parties" that are heavily advertised on the Big Show. The Pats took action against Stubhub.com, too. I haven't been listening to WEEI that much and usually tune out the commercials... but I wonder if the tailgate packages will still be advertised. Will there be any mention of it?

I admit, not being much of a Smerlas fan, I find this humorous. Regardless of that, it's kind of an interesting story...

If Mitt Romney bought the tickets as Christmas presents for his illegal alien workers Smerlas and Ordway might not be on the hotseat.

Talk about pure greed - as if they need the money.

The money is not the issue, Joe. The Patriots have certain conditions they've set out for season ticket holders. That's their right.
I was listening to Jonathan Kraft on the pre-game show today, he said people lose their season tickets all the time for offenses like this. It's only become an issue in the Globe because it's Smerlas.

the thing is... Smerlas got away with it for quite awhile... it's just now they're cracking down. Of course, if you read the article, the Pats scalp their own tickets for travel packages. That's their prerogative, of course. I guess they don't like the competition...

Yes, Smerlas and company knew they were taking a risk and he has acknowledged that it's
the Pats' right to take away the tickets. These were bought years ago when the Pats
weren't doing too well, but now there's a long line for season tickets and many sellouts.

it's pretty much been the case since the Tuna was the coach... sellouts, that is... but, yeah, with Gillette, it's obviously a much more appealing stadium

I wonder, as a former player, if the league will get involved and if this might effect Fred's pension?

Unless there's something specific in the agreement between the union and the league that speaks to this, I doubt it.

one of the Globe sportswriters makes a joke of Smerlas in the paper today
