SMOKIN' ROLLS RS 80 TUNER

NEW in box.Plugged it in,plugged in some headphones, got a nice BUZZ and then it just died.Dead as a hammer.Anyone had a similar problem?Sound like the power supply crapped out.Has that nice smell to it.(transformer,maybe)..Did this unit miss quality control? Well heck.

Tascam makes a decent rack-mounted tuner that's reasonably priced. See if your supplier will swap you out. Rolls tuners are worse than crap.

I had a bunch of those at a cluster I worked for. I wondered why they sounded so shrill until I got a schematic and found the deemphasis circuit was for 50uS.

I have a stack of them. They are treated like consumer CD players... whan one gve trouble, we cl;eaniit and go over the pushbuttons and connections. This cures about half the troubles. I don't know what cures the other half, because we simply round file the box and get another.

I thought this was the new and improved version(like Tide).Chip replacement for better low end without that terrible distortion. On the site they claim they will fix any unit, even ones (most)out of warranty at no charge. Now that is scary.Seller will cheerfully refund my money, but i only paid 89.00 for the unit(Ebay). For that price and the fact Rolls will fix it under warranty, why not spring for it??What cha think???

The other end is poor as well...the Rolls won't take everything an Omnia 6 can throw at it. Bass distortion is obnoxious on the Rolls and clean on the Pioneer TX 9500 II.
