94.7 The Wave (KTWV) has jumped up to 7th place in the LA market after CBS decided to tweak the format. They still play Peter White, Hiroshima, Dave Koz etc. but they have added more vocals. Their website lists their top 30 as:

Do you think this revamped format could work here? I realize that The Oasis played some of this music but it wasn't quite this vocal intense. Thoughts? I can't believe I am about to say this but smart move by CBS.

It just depends on if the market can absorb this programming.

I think it would work looking at that play list. If CBS were smart, they would try that on 105.3 and get rid of the crappy programing that is on there now. fire the entire on air staff and hire some of the old Oaisis DJ's back, like Temepe and Larry Dixon to mention just a few. 105.3 has a bette signal thatn 107.5, so it might just work.

Well it would put some more pressure on KRNB and KSOC. It would be the closest thing to a full signal Urban AC this market has had since CBS pulled the plug on KRBV.

Man, that's one cool playlist!!! Never heard any DFW station play anything like that...and probably never will. That 's why it's so hard to let my satellite go.

My question is, would it not help 105.3 that is floundering who can't even get good raitngs for Cowboy Games. A change to this format there only makes sense.

KTWV...#17 25-54...awesome!

... and lower numbers each week of the book, too.

This is a work in progress. It shouldn't be judged for a number of books. Right now, most of the smooth jazz folks are either adapting or leaving, and the only growth is in 55+, which shows how irrelevant 12+ numbers are.

I fully expect Jhani Kaye to make this a very successful turnaround; he is just simply one of the best PDs out there. But right now, calling this a completed format is likely premature.

yeah, but can The Fan do any worse?

Different critter... look at WFAN in NY, which tends to be around 15th in 12+ and yet is one of the country's top billers.

If that format came to Dallas/Ft. Worth, it would be on one of my presets.

This was in The Orange County Register...

The Wave news: Program Director Jhani Kaye's fine-tuning of music on KTWV/94.7 FM – and his goal to go with more live voices – is raising the ratings. In three months, it's gone from a 2.5 to 3.5. And the number of different listeners tuning in weekly is close to 1.9 million.
