Smooth Jazz 100.1 flips

I noticed on my way home tonight that Tama Broadcasting's 100.1 has flipped from Smooth Jazz to Joy 100.1, all gospel all the time.

104.7 and 92.3 appear to be unchanged at this point.

I thought something was wrong when I tried to listen live online last night! There was no stream connecting. Luckily, I remember taping an aircheck or part of one of WSSJ last year so I just have to find it. I was going to tape a new one last night but I guess it's too late now. Darn!

I'm airchecking all smooth jazz stations I can listen to online. There's not that many as other formats but it's still a lot of stations to do and is very time consuming that is for sure, plus right now my laptop computer's really slow.

They flipped on the 15th at some point. Brilliant move on Tama's part...

That being said, it's going to be a cash cow within a year, IMO. Expect it in the top 5 12+ by this time next year. I do not think any AM gospel station stands a chance against an FM with a decent signal.

As for the other stations, I doubt either will flip for the time being.

Correct...and with proper advertising, 100.1 will be a force to reckon with. Things may not be 'sok very soon...catch my drift? Will this (or could this) impact 103.9?

Now that Tama did something right, the next "right" move for them would probably flip 104.7 to Spanish?

SOK to Get Socked again 1st by Magic. Now by Joy. Interesting to see that SOK climbing all the way back since then to beat E93 and was #1 in Sav last book. Joy does have potential. 103.9 probably wont take much of a hit because they don't play nearly as much Gospel as they did when it was V103.9

Looks like the Flipping of the BIG Smooth Jazz WQCD in NYC Started a domino effect. WSSJ here in Savannah followed and looks like Tama isn't quite done. Just seen this on All Access

"TAMA BROADCASTING Smooth Jazz WJSJ & WSJF/JACKSONVILLE has evidently flipped to Rhythmic AC"

They did, they flipped last Friday sometime between 2 and 10pm. They were SJ when I went to work. Rhythmic A/C when I left work.

I'd heard that Sam Nelson was talking to the people at Tama a few weeks back. I wouldn't be surprised if they picked him up, and his first order of business was this flip. I hope he gives the competition hell, so to speak.

As for Spanish, no one in Savannah's willing to put the money into the infrastructure necessary (certainly not Tama). A bi-lingual sales manager. A bi-lingual sales staff. A morning person/face of the station, for remotes. When someone finally does do it right, however, an atom bomb is going to go off and revenue heretofore unclaimed will be pouring in. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next week...but maybe within two years, I predict this will happen.

^ I wonder if Bluffton's 1430 is reaping rewards for their flip to spanish?

I'd reckon so.

They do OK in the ratings, and they certainly have an active station staff (I see two different 1430 AM cars up on the highway almost daily)

I think someone will get the point and flip to spanish on FM soon, though.

I know I may be out of the loop on 99.3 coming to Savannah, but what has happened to that? If that move happens, spanish may be a great contender.
