Smooth Jazz actually *is* back!

Anyone check out 106.1's HD-2 channel today?

(Before the nonsensical hater replies--which are really old, BTW: You can hear HD-2's and -3's online.)

Just checked it out online. It's smooth jazz. Does that mean WUBA is back to AM only? If a Drs office want jazz in the waiting room, they just have to buy an HD radio. I have 2 of them at home. I like Y-rock and KYW on FM.

You know, one thing I can say for sure that HD radio is good for is giving listeners formats commercial stations can't sustain. Clear Channel obviously recognizes this which is why they put Smooth Jazz back on 106.1's HD-2 channel. And you know what? I am a good example of at least one reason HD working: I will certainly be listening to 106.1 HD-2 because it's a format I enjoy. And since Smooth Jazz isn't on 97.5 anymore, I'll be listening to 106.1's HD-2 more than I ever did before. Go figure... Someone finally did something right with a side-channel. And it was Clear Channel, of all people!

Nice!! Listening right now online.

(Just heard a "WJJZ, (frequency)" jingle, without the lyrics.)

i'm not sure what the deal is, but on 106.1 HD2 right now i am hearing the soothing sounds of rumba. on the WISX website it is still listed as tropical.

Just tuned in via the website. First thing I hear is "Just To See Her"-Smokey Robinson. Took me all of 3 seconds to click on the X. They just don't get it. Smooth jazz? Yeah right.

Was it ever on the HD-2 or just the stream? Because a half-hour ago, in my car, I tried to listen and it was Rumba. Now I've tuned into the web stream and it's Smooth AC again! Smooth AC is a much more suitable format for driving. (Well, at the very least when there are lyrics, I can understand them!) CC Philly: Get on the ball for once in your sad existence and put Smooth AC back on the HD-2.

The long, tenuous morphing of Smooth Jazz into Smooth AC surely isn't what purists want. But it is a format and it's apparently the closest we're gonna get. (Or around here, I guess I should say it's the closest we aren't gonna get.) Taking note of the years-long ratings slides suffered by Smooth Jazz/Smooth AC stations all over the country, one can't help but wonder if things would have been better or worse had they never added the non-Jazz titles.
