Smooth Jazz back in Philly on AM, How about in NY?

Clear Channel has brought the legendary (for smooth jazz and Philly) WJJZ calls and motto back on 1480 and 106.1 HD2 in Philly. And they had a reason for it (100.3 changing to Old-School, taking down the former format), and smooth jazz was the next logical step for CC. This sounds very not-likely, but how about CC do the same in NY with their failing WOR, or another station with non-existent ratings, and going out of options? Both rock-bottom ratings (for WOR and former WDAS-AM), too much talk in NY, and no real Smooth Jazz other than HD Radio, but nobody listens to it (except me and a dozen or so others). So why not bring back the old WQCD calls and CD motto, and get at least something going. I think they can equal their current ratings, and it will be more cost-efficient. By the way, the JJZ in Philly is not like the national Broadcast-Architecture type, with a veteran from JJZ through the 2 "eras" on 106.1 and 97.5, and I got to say, they are running 90% instrumental, and little Smooth AC type music. Bring this playlist and music back to NY, publicize it, and they'll get from slightly lower to slightly higher ratings from the failing WOR, and they'll need to put in less money because talk stations take a lot of money to run well, which they aren't. But who am I kidding? CC or somebody else will probably not do it. Feel free to comment! Just another long-shot idea to help, kind of.

Smooth Jazz is on 102.7 HD2 for the benefit of the few people who have HD radios. The problem was that the audience aged out and CD 101.9 flipped to alternative rock in 2007. Smooth jazz was on 101.9 Fm from 1988-2007.

Long shot, indeed. The format simply is not viable for AM, especially in NY, where it had its day in the sun on FM. Clear Channel's sole plan for WOR is spoken word.

Smooth Jazz is just about the worst format you could put on AM. Since the format is instrumental intensive, AM just doesn't support the sound quality needed to enjoy this type of music.

I'll point out that before the "old school" music format on AM 1480 in Philadelphia, Clear Channel had put Spanish music on the frequency (after it failed on 104.5 FM)! Talk about not being supported by AM radio.

At this point, forget terrestrial radio.

I'm certain there are a couple of smooth jazz stations out there that are streaming from all over that may satisfy or go "above and beyond" what FM radio could ever do.

Terrestrial radio is just bleak in that sense. By 2020, just call FM the new "AM". It's virtually like that now when you consider the sports stations.

Good luck.

NYC has traditional Jazz on 88.3 WBGO and 89.9 WKCR, and Smooth Jazz on 102.7-HD2, so fans of the genre are already pretty well covered.

The three main format holes in NYC are Rock, Dance, and Soft AC. At least Rock fans have K-Rock on 92.3-HD2 and Dance fans have Pride Radio on 103.5-HD2, but ever since Clear Channel moved New York Country from 103.5-HD2 to 106.7-HD2 and dropped Classic Lite, there hasn't been any Soft AC.

Now that we have Country music on 94.7 WNSH, Clear Channel should drop New York Country from 106.7-HD2 and bring back Classic Lite.

Pride Radio is not much different than 'KTU. Makes sense if they put Evolution there.

Evolution on 103.5 HD-1 as KTU would make more sense.

How so? Explain how changing the format of an extremely well performing station to a limited appeal (to be generous) format is a good idea. Let me guess...because you personally like the music better?
