Smooth Jazz Bites the Dust in Lafayette

Continuing a nationwide trend for the smooth jazz format, 106.3 Flipped from Smooth Jazz to Hot AC as "Your Station, Your Music, 106.3 the Monkey"

"Monkey" is a slogan used by Triad 's CHR/Top 40 station WXYK 107.1 in Biloxi,Ms. with great results
http://www.1071themonkey.net/home.php

However my vote is ain't the Lafayette market diluted now with a/c and hot a/c based stations?
KTDY 99.9
KQIS 102.1
KGOM 107.1

Not including the rimshot of WDVW 92.3

Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice are all names, I got that.

I also get "Monkey" for a CHR, but I've never heard of "Monkey" for an A/C. Not that it really matters though because the people of Lafayette aren't going to hear it either.

I would say based on what Ive heard so far is that this station is like Planet Radio "Lite" or Modern AC. They dont play hardly many pop cuts.

In a sample hour I heard:(Pardon me if i butcher any artist titles)

U2- Sunday Bloody Sunday
Better Than Ezra- King of New Orleans
Vertical Horizon- Every thing you want
Finger Leven- Paralyzer
Linkin Park- Shadow of the day
Pearl Jam- Given to Fly
Police- Every Breath You Take
Stop Set:
3 Doors Down- Superman
Counting Crows - Mr Jones
Sara Berelles - Love Song
John Mayer- Your body is a wonderland
Stop Set:

Looks like they flipped the Franklinton station too. It's still country but calling itself "Cat Country 98.9".

Sounds good except for Sara Barelles--does NOTHING for me.

I have a couple of contacts at Pittman who sent me the former logo of this one (when it was smooth jazz of course). I'll have to try and find their email address to get the new logo. I've never heard of any brand of AC station using "Monkey" for their slogan either. Wonder how that is going to pan out.

The new Hot AC format was named The Monkey because we plan on having fun with it. Its just a name that you don't forget ... much easier to remember than KYMK or any other call sign. Its one of those names that just grows on you. Besides, who doesn't like a monkey?

We have a good product and will see how it works out. So far it is being well received.

For the guy wanting the new logo, PM me and I will get it to him.

Id say you all are on to something, Ive heard the station in 2 buisnesses so far, Wondercuts across the street from you all, and the Subway on Verot School Rd has you all on the P.A. The signal seems to be decent around town, I know you all had some technical issues with 106.3 a while back.

Heard a stopset at 5:21 this morning on 106.3 with the same R.A.D. :30 PSA airing at least four times in a row, "Hi, this is Gwen from No Doubt...", might have been five times in a row! What kind of automation/traffic software are they running that would allow that to happen?
