This would be a hoot if that happened since smooth jazz no longer bills very well. When I was traveling across western NE I longed to hear smooth jazz. I guess if there was one, it would just fail right?

I don't imagine smooth jazz would ever have done very well in western Nebraska.
Scottsbluff is the largest city in Western Nebraska, and look at the format list available from Radio-Locator: http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/locate?select=city&city=Scottsbluff,+NE&x=0&y=0&sid=
Of course, with Sirius XM, there's no reason for terrestrial stations to try to serve an audience of one, or one dozen, or one hundred.

Your only hope is for maybe the public radio station from the University of Nebraska to pick up a specialty jazz show or two. It looks like there actually is one, but it just says jazz. Doesn't imply if it's smooth or straight ahead.
