Smooth Jazz may return to NYC on the 92.3 Fm signal

Isn't it exciting that CBS is planning a format flip for 92.3. CBS is working with Braodcast Architecture for thier new station. Patt Prescot may leave the Wave and do mornings in NYC again.

I detect an outcry for the return of smooth jazz all over, i think it may be safe to assume that this is a prime example of arbitron being incorrect?.... ... nawwwwwwww

Incorrect? OK. Let's say they are. How many buyers are allowed to buy stations that don't meet arb specs?
Stations stay in business by selling Arbitron numbers, not from any "outcry" that a message board poster might "detect."

This is complete bull. I know for a fact that K-Rock works with Coleman Insights and that CBS is very happy with the station's progress in its target demos.

OK...hope or hype? SJ fans all over have been sick and tired of rumors...all they (we) want is to turn the dial to something decent on the radio. As I have said before on the SJ posts, it's time to gather our forces and come up with cash to buy facilities - that is the best way to ensure the music does not die at the hands of people hell bent on destroying it for whatever warped reason. The rockers and hip hop crowd have pretty much obliterated the dial with the same old stuff, however different the packaging...they will learn in short order that even more of us are tuning them out and tuning in to what we want. Just wait 'til Arbitron takes the forward leap into internet radio - then we will see who has the last laugh.

SJ folks are not without 'disposable income', something most sales departments USED TO care about.

Maybe Smooth Jazz is coming to 92.3 on their HD3 channel! They're probably going to simulcast the SJ station out of LA you know, the one with Brian McKnight in the morning, who will "sing your requests"...

Do you know how much it would cost to buy an FM in NY?
Is your plan to run a viable business or to champion some amorphous musical "cause"?

George W. Bush will be elected as the Mayor of New York before smooth jazz ends up on the main channel of 92.3! And, I'd give both events even odds for the HD-2 signal. There's absolutely no public outcry for either event to occur. ;D

You had me rolling on the floor with that one.

I do have to say, I do miss the "old" programming 101.9. I still have the button preset on my car radio but seldom stay tuned more than 10 seconds. I'm sorry, it may not be have been a ratings winner but I think it was once programmed well. I think in the last few years before the flip it started to lose its focus from what a jazz station should be but it was still listenable.

Like others have said, it's probably more likely Jazz will return as a format to be orphaned to an HD2 or HD3 channel instead of main program content. I can tell you one thing, I know I'm not going to run out and buy any HD Radio hardware when I have scads of radios that function perfectly fine. If I do want a variety, there's one's own music collection or internet listening - why invest in this hardware (sorry, but I could start an entire rant about HD but that's for another thread).

George Bush as Mayorof New York? Gawd help us all!!!!

Smooth jazz is currently available on 101.9's HD2 channel.

Then again, I don't blame the majority for not being aware of it, since they don't own HD radios...

CBS plans to air BAs broadcast architectures SJ network on 92.3FMs mainstream analog channel. I'm friends with Allen Kepler at BA. He told me to not be too loud about this new SJ affiliate. Many of you are asking about the two morning show hosts who have a 2 year contract. CBS plans to fire the two mourning hosts on WXRK.

Who in NYC will pick up Alterantive in NYC once CBS drops it? Maybe clear channel could dump Power 105.1 and replace Power with Alternative? This town has too many Hip Hop stations.

Once CBS drops it from where? 92.3?

You mean the alternative station on 92.3 that plays all the AC/DC and Black Sabbath? That alternative station?

And when is this all going to happen?

O&A only signed a 1 year extension and that was 4 months ago. It would take a few months to get this station ready if indeed it was going to happen. They would only have to pay them until the end of the one year deal. Probably as long as their non-compete. The whole thing seems possible...I guess we'll have to wait and see.

So Mr. Kepler told you to post the secret on a message board. Right.

And you know and release this before the lawyers have negotiated a release and severance? Right.

Alternative? Alternative?? Right.

Sure, let's drop the format on a top 10 billing station, just because you like smoothe jazz. Right.

P.S. Area 51 is not a rated market, and tin foil hats don't have built in radios.

Smooth jazz will no doubt surface on non=commercial radio if it all

Smooth Jazz just returned to Denver when KJCD flipped. New York could be the same boat as Denver. Denvers new Smooth Jazz station is the 3rd station to try SJ in Denver.

Yeah, and the station it returned on in Denver is a rimshot station well south of town with very spotty coverage from what I've read.

If anything, smooth jazz might "return" to New York via Westchester's 103.9 or 106.3...
