Smooth Jazz returns this week...

Rob, no, they are pretty misguided. You and VDV have this annoying little habit of revising your statements to fit a position...VDV didn't say anything about "the experience" before. He posted about the content, those are 2 different issues. In another thread, you both railed on major market talent AND major market radio playlists, playing only the hits. You guys can't have it both ways.

If is JUST about the music, then VDV can go to the iPod, and you have lost your job again. If it is about the experience, then you cannot compete with major market radio, and lose your job, BUT you get to keep VDV!

Smooth Jazz was the original issue, it didn't work and you have no good reason for brinning that garbage back. You are not an innovator, you like job security, you don't have the ability to change it.

And the reason we don't have our MTV anymore is because we are out of demo, can't change THAT either.

Talk,

I have a simple solution for you. If you don't like my posts, then skip over them. You're not bringing any substance to the table with these personal attacks and assumptions.

AHHHHH, there you go again, "personal attacks and assumptions", you LOVE saying that....And if I were you, I would stick to diversion as well.

But, don't tell me that I don't bring substance to the party...I am Captain Substance...and I don't mean the kind you and VDV are smokin. How about this for substance:

Where did you learn logic? All I'm seeing here is combativeness.

Did you ever tell us who you work for, how much you make, and how old you are?

Actually Paul, most of that information HAS been revealed. If you want to know, feel free to dig it up. Logic, while it is taught, cannot be learned in and of itself. Either you are capable of applying logic, or you aren't. Most people CAN, they just don't...

Paul, here is a lesson on logic as it applies to our industry: We (those in the Broadcast Business) operate in a world governed by the laws of economics. Supply, demand, usage etc. When those at the Broadcast Charities (KEOM, non-coms et al) attempt to compare, contrast and critisize(sp) the "business" without understanding the framework because it doesn't apply to them, they come off looking stupid.

The logic is, if you pretend to represent something and you don't understand what you are saying, you will challenged on your views, because you cannot answer the challenge, you get defensive...because YOU (the plural you) get defensive, you percieve combativeness.

I'm feelin' a not-so-smooth move to TAKE IT OUTSIDE comin' on. Wait! Something's coming up out of the hollow top! It's large. Large as a bear...and it glistens like wet leather...and the monster or whatever it is can hardly move. Possibly weighed down by gravity...Hold on. Something's happening...

I tend to agree with this point. Because there's a large number of people who forget this is, at it's heart and soul, a buisness for the vast majority of us. There's a few non-comms I wouldn't mind working for around the country, but generally those jobs are few and far between, and usually lag behing the power curve when it comes to compensation.

That why I laugh at certain posters who pine away for 'the good old days' when jocks picked their own music, and I laugh at being lectured about "what's wrong with the industry' by guys who face absolutely NONE of the same challenges as me and my compadres in 'real' (i.e. commercial) radio...

Until you've had that certain portion of your anatomy pucker up with pressure because you've been told to tweak the music to bring in more listeners, and if they aren't there in the next book it's your job, you haven't worked in 'real' radio...

Commercial radio is a guilty pleasure of mine. I do detest the ways I see people walking in the door wondering if that next book will mean a raise for the pocketbook or a raise outside to the street. But when those books are on, life is good. This, like any other corporations, is a business. Bottom lines, spreadsheets and payroll.

We get it. Don't have to like it, but get it. Heck, why do you think I make the living I do? ;D
