Smooth Jazz Sunday Brunch on KVIL

Starting this weekend 103.7 KVIL is adding the Smooth Jazz Sunday Brunch from 8:30 - Noon with your host Tempie Lindsay. 8) It is about time!

That is so great to hear......It's a great day in DFW Radio!!!!!!!!

Ummmm.... Let's wait until the actual product aires, before we judge it. If they do what The Oasis was doing, then some of the music isn't "jazz". i.e. This Is It from Kenny Loggins.

With Charley Connolly out of the way, perhaps Tempie's been properly welcomed back. What a dumb@ss for ever letting her go. GREAT for her! :)

KODA is owned by Clear Channel, not CBS

Flack & Hathaway....? Are you serious? That fits the Loggins and Rafferty stuff.

Nah there is a difference. Loggins is pure AC and pop. Flack and the Great and I do mean GREAT Donnie Hathaway are the best of R&B. That playlist was better than the 107.5 Oasis could have come up with.

Sadly, Hathaway had to kill himself nearly 30 years ago...what a waste, and only 33 yrs old. Surely he still had years of talent and hits to offer. Too sad. Remember that he also did the snappy theme from "Maude."

My point here is that Flack & Hathaway are far more on the "pop / top 40" side, than anything else. If you spin that song on a station trying to be "jazz", you might as well call it easy listening. Besides, that song is old and has been overplayed in this market.

I would rather hear Roberta and Donnie than 75% of the stuff played on today's urban/urban ac stations. I'm definitely what you call an "Old School Brotha", raised in the OCT baby!!!!!!

Just received an email with the subject line "The Oasis is Back on the Radio"

Hello Jeff:

I want you to tune in Sunday morning to The New 103.7 Lite FM for a brand new show: Sunday Jazz Brunch.

Sunday Jazz Brunch will feature all the fantastic Smooth Jazz music that left the FM dial when The Oasis moved to HD and online. Now it’s back!
It’s the smoothest music on the radio, on the best morning of the week. Chris Botti, Kenny G, Sade, Diana Krall, David Sanborn, Norah Jones, George Benson all come to play again on the Dallas Fort Worth airwaves on Sunday Jazz Brunch. And my favorite part? It’s hosted by your friend and Smooth Jazz lover, me! Tempie Lindsey!

So it’s a date! Set your clock radio to 103.7. You won’t mind it gently waking you to Sunday Jazz Brunch. The music starts at 8:30 and goes all the way ‘til noon.

Meet you there.

Your friend,

Tempie

This is great news, but I'll be in church during this time. :(

Although I miss Smooth Jazz on 107.5, some of their stuff, Rafferty, Genesis (my favorite group of all time !!) and others are NOT Smooth Jazz. If they would ONLY go BACK to the 106.1 format with some "real" smooth jazz it would even be better.

Anybody else remember a band on 106.1 called Horizont? They were awesome. Same with Praful. That is real, smooth jazz.

But anything is better than nothing.

If this is successful does anyone out there even "think" about turning KVIL into Smooth Jazz completely?
Just a thought.

Not KVIL but there are other CBS properties that are not doing so well overall. Perhaps this is a test - perhaps not. Even though CC has success in major markets I doubt they would jump in to SJ here either.

I guess you have an impotant life decision Jay... Church or Smooth Jazz ;) OR you could record it. I can't tell you how many cassette tapes I had of KZEW's Rock N Roll Alternative or Edge Club back in the day...

No need to record it, while going to church. I'll just listen to one of the Smooth Jazz stations on my iTunes or go over to www.jazztrax.com and listen on-line there, as well.

I make up my own Smooth Jazz CD's for the car, as well.
