Now 102.9 should revamp it's format and flip to "102.9 The Hawk".

I know how much some of you would die for that! ;D

Somebody please tell me what the difference is between The Hawk and WMGK? In your mind, what makes the Hawk a better station? I listened to both and found that 'MGK played more variety and had live jocks.

What made The Hawk so special? Inquiring minds want to know. Thank you.

Depending where you live in the area, you can still pick up other classic rock stations if you don't like MGK.
There's the Hawk 99.9 in Easton, the Hawk 105.7 in south Jersey, Frank FM 107.5 from Berks County & the River 94.7 from Delaware. That pretty much covers all directions unless you're right in the city.

A better question is, why do people think that had they kept the hawk instead, it would remain the hawk they know, and not turn into what they don't like about MGK anyway?

The other night, I spend 40 minutes here trying to explain why Greater Media wasn't able to keep The Hawk. That The Hawk remains the property of Nassau, and wasn't included in the sale. These rabid Hawk fans still haven't responded, except for one, who chose to attack me personally rather than address any of my points.

One particular postor has posted 46 comments on message boards in the past two weeks praising The Hawk, ripping 'MGK, and in my opinion, making a certain WCAU fan look like an informed radio analyst. This postor completely ignored all of the facts I brought up the other night, and still refuses to offer any reasons why he feels The Hawk was such a wonderful station.

Getting back to the original point of this thread, I think Greater Media's WJJZ will do lots to keep tens of thousands (possibly hundreds of thousands) in the Philadelphia market from leaving terrestrial radio -- that is, once the transmitter is moved to Mermaid Lane. While 97.5 is currently unlistenable for much of the market, the station is wise to be promoting the webstream as a clear alternative for the time being.

102.9 aint too bad...just not as great as 97.5

97.5 played more heavier stuff, and 102.9 goes 5 or 6 hours sometimes with no zeppelin or floyd song, but 1 billy joel or elton john song an hour...

97.5 played billy joel as well and elton john, but the also played zeppelin and floyd ALOT. which is good, theres no more FBHW, no more get the led out (mgk might be doing that though, the did the first night) no more 10:00 rock block, no more 20 song music marathons everyday at 9 noon and 5, no more firecracker 500 (though, mgk does do a top 500 for memorial day), no more A-Z every christmas holiday, no more thanksgiving block party, no more tripple-shot thursday...

mgk playes 3 hours of the damn beatles every sunday morning (i like the beatles though, just not 3 hours of it) saturday morning 60's, drives me nuts, and they dont have a bad ass name...

i understand that GM cant make 102.9 the hawk or keep the hawk at 97.5, however, nassau should get another station in trenton somewhere and open them up again,

i still like mgk, im just going to 105.7 the hawk.

I agree with you George. They need to promote that website a lot until the new year. They should have put that new trasmitter on the air this year, not 07.

The station sounds just like the old jjz i thought they might mix it up a little.
